I Just killed him with a lvl 85 Warlock. I'm destro and I tanked him with my void walker. Fairly simple. The VW takes hardly any damage from him, keeps aggro well and if you have Shadowfury you can interrupt his heals. Don't get caught in the spinning kick he does. Just stand back and unleash hell on him!

Ruun Ghostpaw is a neutral rare mob at the Temple of the Red Crane.

He has three abilities:
Spinning Crane Kick
Healing Mists
Chi Burst

Whenever you see him casting Spinning Crane Kick just run away or stun him. You cannot interrupt it.
Save your interrupt for Healing Mists.
Chi Burst hits quite hard but he only uses it if his target is not within melee range.

Clear out one of the Incarnations of Despair as their Last Gasp will get you killed. You cannot interrupt both spells. It will most likely respawn if you are soloing this guy so try and fight him on the stairs going up to the top floor where he was.

Found him by accident up in the Temple of the Red Crane, took a couple attempts to get it right on my hunter.

On 3rd attempt, I blew all my hunter cool downs at the start and unleashed absolute fury on him to DPS him down faster, was perfect to interrupt his Healing spells and bring him down.

He dropped Deepwild Hunting Helm

So happy hunter here :D

You will need some decent interrupts to kill this mob.
He casts a spell which heals about 50% of his HP.
I was able to solo with as BM hunter.
Scatter shot, intimidation and silencing shot works.
You may need to CC near spawning mob, because it may stun you right before you may need an interrupt.

Killed him as a lvl 87 Tauren Spriest after 7 attempts.

It was well worth the effort as he dropped Silent Leggings of the Ghostpaw, and a BoP blue

Here is how I defeated him:

Spec into Dominate Mind, Phantasm, Mindbender, Desperate Prayer, and Power Infusion.
Glyph Dark Binding, Fade, and Reflective Shield.

Stand on the stairs and buff up.
Wait until the Incarnation of Despair SPAWNS near Ruun before pulling, and has patrolled near Ruun.
Cast Dominate Mind on the Incarnation.
Immediately use Last Gasp on Ruun.
Chances are, Ruun will kill the Incarnation before Last Gasp is ready again, but you can squeeze in a couple of swipes, as well as use the other spell on him that reduces his stats.

As soon as the Incarnation is dead, run into melee range of Ruun.
Do NOT stand in melee range while you are channeling Dominate Mind as his Spinning Crane Kick will kill you.
Any time that Ruun is not channeling Spinning Crane Kick, and you are not in melee range, he will cast Chi Blast. About 2 hits from this and you are dead.

Fight him at the top of the stairs until he begins channeling Spinning Crane Kick, at which time you need to run to the bottom of the stairs, avoiding his kick.
Once at the bottom of the stairs, you can continue fighting him in the wide open room.
Just watch out for the 2 haunts on either far side of the room.
Also, avoid going to the far side of the room opposite of where you came off the stairs from. Doing so may cause Ruun to reset.

From here, it's all a matter of avoiding his spinning crane kick, interrupting his heals, and staying alive.
His heal will heal him for 50%. Try to interrupt it when you can. It kind of sucks that priests only have one interrupt, and the CD is 30 sec.
A tauren gets a second interrupt, however, so don't forget about War Stomp.

Because he heals for 50%, it's best that you deal as much damage to him as quickly as possible.
This is why I suggested speccing into Mindbender and Power Infusion, and glyphing into Reflective Shield, as they will increase your damage done.
Keep your bubble up at all times, and keep Mindbender and Power Infusion on CD.
You can even afford to stand in his Spinning Crane Kick for a moment or two, to get off a cast, with your bubble up and casting fade. Thanks to the glyph, incoming damage is reduced by 10%. Just be careful.

With Glyph of Dark Binding, you can cast prayer of mending and renew without losing shadow form. This will help you stay healed up without losing dps.

Save your Desperate Prayer incase you screw up.

It might take you a couple of tries to kill him, but hopefully with this guide, it'll take you a few less now.

Level 87 demo warlock here.

I watched a paladin, a mage and a priest attempt to down this rare, then tried (and failed) twice. The key to beating this guy is to interrupt his heals, and to avoid his Spinning Crane Kick.

Ruun heals for about 40% of his health at a time. If you cannot interrupt (as I couldn't), you will simply need to do as much DPS as you can, and blow all your cooldowns. A better geared warlock than I would have been able to solo Ruun -- use Dark Soul: Knowledge whenever it is off cooldown, use your Doomguard/Terrorguard and keep your Voidwalker/Voidlord healed up. Treat this fight as a boss fight. An important detail to note is that Ruun does NOT have a mana bar, so you will not be able to win this fight by waiting it out; he will continue to heal until one of you is dead.

Ruun's Spinning Crane Kick is deadly. Once he is within range, he will quickly down you. A clothie will only last a few seconds. You will need to either run away, or stun him. The cast itself is not interruptable. Classes with pets will find this aspect of the fight easier to manage -- my voidwalker took very little damage from the Spinning Crane Kick.

Another thing to watch out for is the Incarnation of Despair which patrols Ruun's balcony. This is a long fight, so it is likely that you will kill the Incarnation, only to have it respawn pretty quickly. If you can, drag Ruun into the large room below the balcony. An add may determine the outcome of the fight. As a warlock, I down things slowly and steadily. Throwing an add into the mix knocked me off balance, so make sure you keep an eye on things.

If you can't solo Ruun, throw a message in /1 and get some help. In the end, there were for four of us, and Ruun went down in a couple of seconds. You definitely do not need four people to kill Ruun; he will be soloable by some classes, even at 87, and should be duoable by the rest. Good luck!

Oh, and for the record, he dropped Beachcomber's Hat. As the only cloth wearer in our group, I got it!

He's upstairs in the temple. Found him, and attacked him as a lvl 87 Survival hunter. He has two main things you have to watch for. A spinning crane kick that doesn't do a lot to my pet but was hitting me for about 80k a tick. Just move out and you are fine. Then he does a heal which has to be interupted. I used my gorilla's Pummel. I tried scatter shot, which interrupted it, but he immediately recast it.

Once you get the interrupts down, he's cake.

All Pandaren rares use the same set of abilities.

Chi Blast is a lethal ranged attack that can potentially one-shot a same level character depending on maximum health. It can be interrupted, but it's far better to completely avoid the ability altogether by staying within 15 yards of the Pandaren. As long as you do not move further than 15 yards from the caster, they will simply never use it.

Healing Mists is an interruptable heal that is typically cast after Spinning Crane Kick. This heals the Pandaren for a huge amount of health, and while it's preferable to let this go off if it means stopping a Chi Blast earlier on, it's better to save your interrupts for this and avoid Chi Blast by staying close.

Spinning Crane Kick is avoidable simply by running away. The Pandaren moves faster than normal running speed, so be ready with some kind of speed boost (about 30% should do) or get a head start while the Pandaren is still casting the initial spell. Stunning during the channel will stop the attack, but stunning during the initial cast will only make them cast it again when the stun wears off.

Killed him this afternoon as an 87 Brewmaster. He was the most difficult rare spawn I've met so far in Pandaria. His unique spawn location of the second floor of the crane temple makes him difficult to find for people without prior knowledge. I had four attempts on him and did the corpse-run each time and no one ever tagged him in between.

His spinning crane kick hits for 30k on a tank. There's is no way to simply tank and spank. You must clear the 2 sorrowful Shas patrolling his tier first in order to have a decent kiting path.

If you're planning on flying onto the temple ledge to tag him, be sure not to overshoot him. I saw a couple people fly in and keep running waaay past him right as I was about to engage him for the final time.

Personally, I would suggest bringing a friend along if you're not a 90.

Conclusion:

Basically. Avoid Spinning Crane Kick, interrupt Healing Mists and you're good. I have found out that his RESPAWN just over 6 hours. I killed him around 7:50 am and I came back at 1:55 and he wasn't there. I did a scenario got back at 2:10. he wasn't. I went to the black auction house. Came back at 2:20 and he was there.

Killed him on my lvl 90 rogue. I'm decently geared and killing him was very easy as long as you avoid his Spinning Crane Kick and interrupt his Healing Mists. He dropped Beachcomber's Hat. Killed him at 11:39pm. I might see how long it takes him to spawn. The Incarnation of Despairs takes about 2.5 minutes to respawn. So I killed the Despair, then went right to killing Ruun and I had plenty of time. Took me 45 seconds to kill Ruun.

Last night I killed him at 11:39pm. I checked at 3:45am this morning and he had not spawned yet. I checked again when I woke at 7:50am and he was there. After one test, I have found that his respawn time is between 4 and 8 hours. He dropped Unearthed Dojani Headcover and Small Bag of Goods (The contained loot from the bag was 18x Green Tea Leaf and 19x Ghost Iron Ore the second time I killed him. My goal is to get Silent Leggings of the Ghostpaw.

I was just able to solo him as a level 87 Fire Mage. What I did was I kite him down the stairs to the lobby/courtyard area down below the balcony where he spawns.

The trick, as a mage, on him and any other Pandaran is to not get too far. If you get too far away from him, he'll cast his Chi Blast ability, which will 2-shot you. Stay close to him until he starts to cast Spinning Crane Kick, at which point you should blink away. Save Counterspell for his Healing Mists ability - if he lands his heal, it will heal for nearly half his health. Keep your frost shield up as much as you can, and just DPS him down as quick as you can.

In my case, it took 3 tries. It was on that 3rd try that I hit on the idea of kiting him down the stairs, where there is more room to do what you need to do with him. You do need to hit him as you go down to keep him from resetting. Make sure to kill the Incarnation of Despair patrolling near him before you pull, as if you agro it during the fight you will die.

Whats the Drop rate on the Epic rogue/druid legs ? ive killed him several times to never see them drop and ive talked with alot on my server and all that have killed him never seen them drop either

Finally after 13 kills... parked for mabe 6 days i finally got the agil rogue / druid legs to drop and they are worth it
checked the sell price on my serverand they go for 13k still lol

BUUUUUT they are goin to my druid who just hit 87 so booya !

If you interrupt his heal, he just casts it again. Also the incarnations of despair spawn right next to him, so you have that to deal with. So after you get through him healing himself almost to full every time and finally kill him, HE DIDN'T DROP A GOD DAMNED THING.

Freaking impossible on a blood DK with 500k health. Not fast enough to outrun the kick and for whatever reason Mind Freeze doesn't stop his heal. Nevermind the fact that the Shas respawn so fast. I've killed all the other rares in Krasang no problem, but I can't get Ruun past half health.

87 Frost DK. Easy to do. Kill the one mob next to him. Right after start on him. When you see the animation or warning depending on your addons for him to do the kick run. Once past a certain point he won't follow you and will spin in a single spot. Then half way through his kick run back and get ready with Mind Freeze. As he starts to cast Healing Mists hit him with that and interrupt. He will then stop doing anything for a second and begin attacking again. If he by chance starts to cast again either soak up a heal and deal with it or hit him with Strangulate to stop him again. Hit him again and wait for the next spin. Rinse and repeat the first part. He's so easy to down. I don't get why people are having such a hard time with him. Remember, he doesn't move when starting the kick so you have time to run and if you get far enough he won't follow you while kicking.

If you're hunter you can solo him at 85, i'm 86 but this is a strategy that is OP and works every time. on all Big scary npcs like this one
this is a hunter strategy

if you're friends with a hunter, get them to solo him with this strategy, or help him

For this you will need
1. A Pet, Preferably a ferocity so you can use Heart of the Phoenix in case your Mr cuddles dies
2. Mend Pet
3. Growl set it to auto
4.
5.
6. Your Bada$$ Hunter skills

How to do it
(assuming you're smart and kill the adds 1st. like all he has a very low aggro range so you can get closer to him than most other npc's
1. Drop and Hunter's Mark your target, just because
2. Have your pet attack the target then use Mend Pet so your pets health doesn't depleted
3. Use your Bada$$ Hunter skills to attack the target but keep an eye on the time remaining of Mend Pet just beneath your pet icon/window when it gets down to 4 seconds apply Mend Pet again, this will stop your pets health from getting depleted, if however your Mr cuddles dies then use Heart of the Phoenix quickly so it will get back up and keep fighting.
4. some adds may spawn (not on this target, this is a universal strategy) spawn, provided you keep the between you and the target any add will freeze up so you don't need to worry about him till after the fight.
5. Use the target has a healing ability so use Otherwise it can make it very difficult and tedious to kill this particular target.
6. If there is someone killing it don't be an ass to them and kill them, let them finish the fight, chances are they'll wipe anyways if not he'll re spawn and you can kill him later. If they do wipe and come and kill you, it just shows how Sh*t they are

manage to kite him down to the 1st floor. the 2 mob at the first floor is much more easier. then just whack him at the open area at the 1st floor. of cos, observing all the golden rules given by other threads here.

The only hard part about this guy is the nearby mobs, they have a grip (which will pull you into his kick) and a stun (which will keep you from interrupting his heal). Make sure to clear nearby mobs first.

Take him downstairs if you have low damage (aka tank or healer specs). You can deal with the additional Haunt of Despair while kiting through incidental AoE. However, if you try to fight him upstairs where the Incarnation of Despair can respawn, you're gonna have a bad time. When the Incarnation of Despair uses Last Gasp, Ruun WILL run out of melee range and blow you up with Chi Burst (unless he's already blowing you up with Spinning Crane Kick, that is).

Just killed him as an 88 fury warrior, I kitted him downstairs and just ran back and forth between the two stair cases to avoid the Crane Kick, pummelled his Mist Heal and never ran too far that he'd hit me with 'Chi Burst'.

Make sure to clear any lingering 'Sha Manifestations'

When i first came across this guy, i had a lot of troubles with him, especially because of the Incarnation of Despair with their annoying Last Gasp that will either kill you or it will give ruun time to get you with Spinning Crane Kick or Chi Burst and/or allow him to cast Healing Mists.

I'd recommend that you kill the mob first, then kite ruun downstairs to avoid that mob.

I just checked on him for the third time, he didn't show up (get targeted) with my macro, this last time when i flew buy i actually came in from the west and i saw yellow text inside the shrine, even when standing next to him he wouldnt be targeted. I doubled checked the spelling and short of my having an aneurysm it was correct. Perhaps the phased building kept me from targeting him, or because he was the last one on my macro. I don't know, but with all rares make sure you check his actual spawning point and dont just fly buy (there is a mantid in jade forest who is stealthed and thus not easily targeted)

For those of those of you that were confuse as to where he is he's upstairs in one of the side balcony's of the Temple of the Red Crane. Actually I killed him with my lvl 90 shadow priest by pulling him downstairs but first I killed both Incarnation Despairs upstairs then one Haunt Despair down at the bottom of one side of the staircase to ensure that I wouldn't have to worry about them adding on to the fight. Once you pull him there you have room to run from his Spinning Crane Kick plus deal damage without the adds doubling on damage to you. Good Luck Hope this Helps
