you forgot to add the service charge that alchemist is going to hit you with because of that cooldown. I've charged as much as 7 gold for 1 arcanite bar transmute (and they provided all materials). =/

I'm a smith, and so would like free arcanite, but I don't think it's unreasonable for an alchemist, especially non-guildmates, to charge for the transmute. With that kind of cooldown, it's not something the alchemist can do anytime (like rogues' lockpicking, which is absurd to charge). Basic economy lesson, people will pay money for goods and services, and will pay more for uncommon services such as this transmute.

Btw, I don't know what alchemists do that is so expensive, but smithing isn't exactly cheap either. Sure, we can sell stacks of bars that we don't need anymore, but alchemists can sell healing pots.

Well on my server Llane, its a token fee of about 4g if i provide the mats, however with talking to one i stuck a deal of 2g per trans (after he found that i will be getting about 40 done from him alone) even though thats 80 days its still cheaper and gives me more chances to get the arcane crystals ;) however to buy the arcanite from the AH i've seen it cost as much as 40g for 1 bar... i feel sorry for the Alchs because the economy is a hard thing to juggle the miners can charge too much for the arcane crystals and that puts up the price of arcanite... its sad really

All you people that are asking why we alchemist charge for transmutes. Lemme ask you this; can you transmute it? NO you cant. You are gonna pay for our services. Other wise why should we pay you for thorium bars? you get them for free right? All it costs you is time. So Time = Money
I think it is fare to say it takes a bit of time to get Alchemy to 275 + Gather mats for the Philosophers Stone. Then on top of all that we cant use transmute agian till the timer is up. and that goes for all transmutes. They are all on the same timer.

So before you start whining about paying for someones time think about where you would be if no one payed you for services

There's a very basic concept in economics called "opportunity cost". If you do one thing, and you can't do another instead, then that's a cost.

If I make a transmute for you, I can't do it for a guildie or myself for two days. Therefore, you bet your butt I'm going to charge you.

Ignoring opportunity cost is one of the easiest ways to make an extremely ignorant evaluation of the true cost of something.

Example: if I get a job at burger king, hey, i'm making six dollars an hour. But that means I can't get that job at that law firm....

it's not greedy for someone to charge for a service that costs them nothing IMO....we all choose 2 professions and we all know that they're for trying to make money. i'm not an alchemist btw.

We rogues can say the same thing with lockpicking. We have to go out and spend the time to hunt down lockboxes etc to skill up which isn't an easy task. But back to the point, if your not a rogue can YOU unlock your lockboxes? no? So if it wasn't for us rogues (and maybe blacksmiths making keys, which is expensive to make) you'd all have a pile of locked boxes lying around. So why shouldn't we get to charge for the service?

I don't care what's in the box if it's a few silver or an old boot. lockboxes are a gamble, sometimes you can get really nice stuff out of them and sometimes you don't. I think all rogues should charge something for picking boxes because without us you'd have nothing but a locked box in your bag collecting dust.

I nearly jumped out of my seat when this plan dropped in SC strat, me being a weaponsmith and server price was about 150g for this.

But when Loot Rules and cash hungry people
(Beacuse I was a 272 Smith then)prevented me from getting it,

I think Blizz updated this weapon recently because I just got the recipe (for 40g!) and it says item level 58, not 63. A few more levels and my rogue can equip it! I can make it on Kilrogg, pst Terradawn, your mats. :)

Please, people... Stick to comments about the plans. No one came here to hear a gripe session about how much alchemists charge for arcanite bars or to look for someone to make anything. That's why our servers have trade channels.
