The mid fight is one of the most important phases in a premade vs. premade matchup, as it can dictate the pace for the entire match. The goal here, for both teams, is to attempt to control the midfield for one reason only, to give that team's Druide flag carrier safe passage through the middle of the field. If a team can control mid, as well as push up and take the Restauration Leaf buff from the opposing team's Leaf Hut near the graveyard, it can be a quick first flag capture for that team.

While the mid fight is happening, Druid flag carriers and Relay Mages will typically run off on their own, attempting to infiltrate the enemy base. There, they will likely run into the enemy team's Chasseur at Ramp and eventually the Voleur in the Flag Room, creating a dynamic 2v2 fight, trying to get the flag out of the base. Both sides of this little skirmish will need excellent communication and work together to defeat the other side.

This phase is the reason Warsong Gulch matches are so great. Simultaneously, inside of both bases, two 5v5 fights will be taking place, to see who can "break" the other team's defense and return their flag. Typically, these small engagements take place at the banana and on the roof of each base, as that is the easiest place for either team to set up a strong defense. One really important concept to understand, is the defense shouldn't focus their priorities on killing the enemy offense. I know this might seem counter-intuitive, but if the defense tries to kill the opposing offense too quickly, that offense can then resurrect outside their base, and run up their base's banana and help defend, before setting up for the next offensive push. Instead, defenses should focus on outlasting the enemy team, using slows, roots, and having the Druide run in circles around the base, staying away from any incoming damage.

The absolute strongest defense isn't the one that does the most damage, it's the one that takes the longest for the Druid to die and drop the flag. When on defense, your priority should always be to free up your teammate flag carrier, allowing them to run away without any attackers connecting on them. This is why Chasseurs and Mages are so good on defense, they can be a massive pain for an attacking Voleur or Guerrier, constantly slowing and rooting them!

Guerrier - During the mid fight phase, the Warrior has priority on callouts. They should be calling out who they are attacking and when they get Mortal Strike up. The team's Warlock and possibly the Shaman should listen for these callouts and attack the same target. In the event the Warrior dies, the Warlock can take over calling out kill targets until the Warrior resurrects. Some examples of Warrior callouts would be "I'm charging into the Priest", "Mortal Strike on Priest", "Switch to this Warrior that just charged in", and so on.

Voleur - You should constantly be updating your team on the location of the enemy flag carrier, informing them where the flag is going, and any important buff timers on the enemy Druid. If the flag carrier isn't moving because you have them crowd controlled, you should still say that on voice. "Druid sapped in flag room", "Druid going tunnel, I'm on them", "Druid Fapped and Skulled", "Goblin Rocket Helmed Druid in tunnel", "Fap is about to fall off", "Enemy team connecting to Druid", "Druid leaving tunnel".

Chasseur - Before the enemy team has pushed up Banana, the Hunter should be the only person on Defense communicating on voice. Their priority is to communicate when the enemy team is getting into position, using Pistage des humanoïdes to see the enemy team in your team's balcony or tunnel. Some examples are, "Three in tunnel. Priest, Warrior, Warlock.", "They're dropping from Balcony now", and "They're about to push up, get ready".

Mage - Mages don't have to communicate much, everyone knows what your priority is on defense, slowing down any attackers. The most important thing you need to communicate to your team is who you are Polymorphing, to inform your team to stop attacking that target. Typically, you want to call out your Polymorph target right after you being the cast, that way it doesn't get broken. "Polymorphing the Warrior", "Polymorphing the Priest".

Prêtre - Similar to Mages, you don't have much to communicate. The most important thing you need to communicate is when you successfully Dispel an enemy player's Free Action Potion. This is important to communicate so your team's Mages and Hunter can use movement slowing effects or roots on those targets, to effectively remove them from the offensive push. "Got Fap off the Warrior", "Got Fap off the Warlock".

Druide - Once the enemy team has pushed up the Banana, the Druid has priority on callouts. The Druid will need to communicate when they are going to jump off the roof, where they are running to (typically the Graveyard), and if they think they are about to die. Whenever a flag carrier is about to die, they will need to communicate to their team to attempt to Repick the flag, signalling their teammates to get in position and spam click around the Druid. "Jumping off roof, going Graveyard now", "They got my Fap off, I might be in trouble", "I'm taking a lot of damage here, get ready for a repick", "Repick! Repick! Repick!".

Voleur - In the event the Rogue is able to sneak onto roof before the offensive push, the Rogue will communicate when the offense should push up banana. The Rogue should attempt to get a Sap off, immediately call for the team to move up, maybe get a Cheap Shot, and a Blind on a Healer, and then the offense can burst down the enemy flag carrier. "Going for a sap now, get ready", "Sapped the Priest! Go now!", "Flash Bombed Druid!". In the event the Rogue can't get on the roof through banana because it is being well defended by the enemy Hunter and Mage, the Rogue won't need to communicate at all. The Rogue would just sit in the enemy flag room and wait for the enemy flag carrier to drop down.

Guerrier - When the Rogue didn't make it on to roof, the Warrior will then be the one to call the offense to push up into banana. While fighting the enemy team's defense, the Warrior should really only be communicating if he connected on to the Druid and when Mortal Strike is up, as that is the most vital information for the offense to know. "Get ready to Fap and push banana in 3, 2, 1.. Go!", "Mortal Strike on Druid!".

Prêtre - The offense Priest should really only need to communicate two things, first, when the enemy flag carrier's Free Action Potion is dispelled and when you put Infusion de puissance on your spellcaster on offense. It can also be important to inform your team when you are crowd controlled, like Polymorph for instance, this way your team knows you won't be able to heal them or dispel them. "I got the Druid's Fap!", "PI on Warlock!", "Polymorphed".

Démoniste - The offensive Warlock should only communicate if your Felhunter Devour Magic's something important, such as Free Action Potion, or when you are casting your damage into the enemy Druid. The reason you want to communicate that you are casting on the enemy flag carrier is in some cases you might critically hit and deal a lot of damage, in that scenario, your team needs to be ready to try and return the flag back to base for a capture. You won't typically cast Fear that often, but if you do that can be good to communicate as well. "Got the Druid's Fap", "Casting!", "Fearing Priest".

Paladin - Typically there isn't much for the Paladin to communicate. Everyone knows your role and what you should be doing, other than which target you cast , there isn't much for your to communicate. "Hoj on Hunter!".

Chaman - Like the Priest, the Shaman should always communicate on voice when a Purge hits Free Action Potion. And similarly to the Warlock, you should communicate when you are casting your damage spells on the enemy Druid, in case you do ensure the kill, your team can return the flag. "Got the Druid's Fap!", "Casting, Druid might die here!".

Voleur: I don't see Mage in Lobby. I think they're going tunnel.

A bad example:

Voleur: I'm in Lobby and the Mage isn't here, so he could be going up our banana or tunnel, maybe he's going to drop on our balcony from roof?

Guerrier: Mortal Strike on Druid!

Guerrier: I'm going in! I'm charging the Druid, using Hamstring, Ha! Got Improved Hamstring proc! Mortal Striked! Popping Reck! Sweeping Strikes! Popping Fap!

7. Don't Get Upset If A Mistake Happensthree flags8. When A Mistake Happens, Use It As A Teachable Moment And Stay PositiveA good example of not getting upset and using a mistake as a teachable moment:

Mage: Warlock, your Curse of Agony broke my Polymorph, which allowed the Priest to keep healing. Instead, you want to put Curse of Tongues on the enemy Priest, which can make it harder for them to heal.

A bad example:

Mage: Dude! Why are spamming Curse of Agony on everything?! You keep breaking my Polymorphs and we keep losing because of you!!

9. When The Match Is Over, Reflect On What The Team Could Improve Upon10. Recognize Your Teammates For Good PlaysA good example of reflecting on something the team could improve upon and recognizing your teammates for good play:

Druide: Priest, I saw you dispel that Hammer of Justice right away, that was clutch. One thing I think you could do in that situation is also try to position yourself close to me and use Psychic Scream to fear melee off of me. If you do that, it could be harder for them to pick the flag when I die and we get the repick.

A bad example:

Druide: We lost the game! Whatever! Just queue up and move on.
