It's good for PvE, but when it comes to PvP, I regret that Gnomish Death Ray is BoP (Gnomish stuff isn't much for PvP except for the Net-o-matic and the Death Ray itself).
Theoretically the gun can do some decent damage, but mostly you won't be able to target your enemies because the flame from the thrower turns very slowly, and it affects only like a 30 or 45 degree angle.
It's fun when it backfires though, your character starts running around caught in flames, and the flame turns all around you, so you can burn people around you much more effectively. It does some damage to you also, but this is compensated by the fact that when it backfires, it doesn't trigger a cooldown, just as most other Goblin things that can blow up.

With all the jumping around in PvP, this isnt the best for PvP.
But it's nice to scare some people in a capitol with it.
Great for Theatre on RP servers.

Eventually this is pretty worthless when it comes to practical uses in instances and especially PvP. It's easy for other players to figure out that they can step or jump out of the fire.

However, the geyser of flame is always pretty amusing as a way to get attention, and it has come in handy when helping out lower levels. This can pull a notable amount of aggro.

Problem is it brakes CC 'couse it's not DD. By creating the only problem's the fuel. Beside that it's a tinket with cooldowns so you can reuse it over and over again you create it soon, so the damage kinda "matters".

Well, atleast you don't have to look for a fire-extinguisher if it backfires. Just right-click the icon and it's gone. Why it's classified as a buff beats me though, i wouldn't concider catching fire as a good thing.

I think the top end for this weapon, is 690 total dmg for all within the cone..

For the costs to create this thing, I'm not sure its all that great.. The mortar works great, and dazes ppl..

If your targets are fire prot'ed, then this is almost useless..

Fun as a party favor though.

If you're thinking of making this to kill things with, don't bother. Use the mortar and explosives rather than waste 10 seconds channeling it to put out similar damage. However, it does look really cool and gets a lot of attention when you flame folks at the bank or auction house. :) If you can afford the rather steep truesilver cost and are prepared for it to just be a toy, go for it.

Btw, cooldown is 5 minutes, and when it 'explodes' it just sets you on fire for about 100 damage per tick and forces you to run around like you were feared.

Btw, I haven't had a critical failure with this thing in a long time. Maybe the critical failures are based on your level? Or maybe I've just been extremely lucky lately.

Yes, it does require engineering (almost all high end engineer devices do, especially trinkets).

I'm very happy with mine... At level 40, the damage is still notable... 66 DPS is more than I can do with my melee weapons (I'm a hunter) and it affects everything in a cone, and you can turn to re-aim the cone if you need to. (Just make sure not to move, as moving will cancel the effect.)

The "Channeling" period isn't that long... It only seems to take two seconds or so for the fire to start coming out.

The biggest advantage of this over the mortar and explosives is that it never runs out; It recharges in five minutes, and never needs to be refuelled. On top of that, it never breaks; If it "explodes", you take the damage, and run around randomly on fire for 5-10 seconds, but the gun isn't damaged. Not only that, but an explosion doesn't count as a use... As soon as you aren't on fire anymore, you can shoot it again!

If you're fighting a lot of monsters (the ambushing swarms of scorpions in Uldaman, for example) this can be really handy.

I'm going to see if this can be combined with a Green Lens Of Firey Wrath (+30 fire damage), but that may only work on spells, and this is a trinket.

Unlike some fire dmg increasing items. the green lens only increases spell dmg. The item will say "and effects" if it works on wands and so forth as well.

ok i'm sold that is problably the best idea i've heard for this device they really should rename this thing rouge bane! i've succesfully used this to "hunt" rouges who think they could stealthaway after garoting me to 1/2 health low and behold were they surprised to see a shamie weilding a little toy liek this! its also effective for findignthose damned stealthed mobs you might need to kill for quests too!

i made this flamethrower just yesterday... its one of the funniest things i've ever used in WoW!

I made it in Gadgezdan... so i thought the best way to find out if it works is to burn them allies wich stand in front of the mailbox.

I've had to lough the whole time over the flamethrower worked... the best thing is... you can hurt them allies (i am horde) and the guards in gadgezdan won't aggro on you! But if someone atacks you after that they will gona die by the swords of them goblin guards.... really funny!

Used it about 7 times so far... explodes just 1 time ... it hurts a littlebit and you are on fire but yay.... as an goblin engineer you are relatet to such unfortunate happening...

If you play a class with no AoE spells or attacks, this comes in very handy in those times when you get swarmed by low level monsters.

It's a decent AoE substitute.

If you're shielded before using it, a failure will fear you and you can have a 2nd attempt right on.
I got this on a priest, to deal with little swarming stuff.

I'm a 60 warrior and I've used Dragon Gun forever. Since the cool down is so quick I use it a lot in instances where you get lots of little, non elite aggro. Example-the dragons in ST (the whelps) or the shardlings of the rock guys in Maury. It does get you some aggro so it's perfect for a warrior.

Well i have been looking around for +fire dmg magic and effects, u can have about 210 dmg PER SEC! So u have 2100 dmg over the 10 sec. Only need 2 try it now :D

I can see this being significantly more useful in AB than the death ray. If it gets everyone off a flag, letting you stall them just long enough to maybe get a rez pulse, it would be very useful. I plan to give it a try, though I will likely forget to post an update here. Anyone already know if it interrupts grabbing the flag?

When you use the Dragon Gun you don't actually see the gun. It's more like a flame thrower coming out of your hand.

It does the listed damage every second for 10 seconds to everything in the area of effect - a cone in front of you with a range of about 10 yards. So that's 610-690 damage total not including any resists/vulnerabilities assuming the target is in the area of effect for the entire 10 seconds.

No, it's not huge damage at Level 60 but it can affect quite a number of targets if aimed properly in the right circumstances, and will expose stealthed or invisible units.

On the other hand, the cooldown is very short, only 5 minutes, so you can use it frequently.

No, you can't move while using it or the spray of fire will prematurely end. You can turn to redirect the spray of fire to a different direction.

Melee autoattack will continue while the Dragon Gun is being channeled but activating any other ability, beginning to cast a spell, etc. will cause the spray of fire to end prematurely.

Although it is "channeled" if you get hit you will not lose channeling time. Just don't activate any other abilities or move. An interrupt effect such as Shield Bash will probably stop the effect, but no one has ever used something like that on me while my gun was spurting fire.

I noticed sumthin really cool about the dragun gun backfiring.. when it does you can rightclick the debuff n it turns off. its amazing that noone has posted this little tidbit yet. i wonder if it works on the everlook transporter malfunction too...

Often me and my friend will have arguments over which is better: The Enchant Mage or the Rogue Engineer. His big selling point is that the mage's Cone Of Cold is so powerful against everyone in front of him, especially with some frost enchants.

I think I might duel him when I have one of these, then when he CoC's me I whip out the Squishie Cooker 5000 on him.

True at end game this without buffs looks pretty bad unless you have a few guys charging you (Say at a tunnel or other narrow opening), but in theory there is no reason why you shouldn't be able to use a select fe trinkets and Necklaces to increase this to something resembling powerful in end-game PvP without sacrificing any big abilities. If you're a Caster (especially a mage) this begins to mlook like you can have alot of fun...

Of course, I'm a jerk so I know that I'll just use this by aggroing a ton of low greys and cut them down with it, heh heh heh imagine all the fun you could have by killing like seven(teen) Murlocs at once... LOL

I tried using this along with Spellpower goggles xtreme on my 35 warrior, but there was no increase in dmg which made me think it might only be affected by +fire spells/effects, so I purchased some phoenix pants/gloves, also no change in dmg. Thus I believe the dmg this does can only be increased by the +fire dmg enchantment :(

It'll be funny to try out this in AV, Gnomish Death Ray may be good, but this is AoE. I'll try to sneak (I'm rouge) into some big fight, fire it up (hope it doesn't blow up!) and watch a lot damage-numbers pop from the heads of thom' pesky hordes! >D

Level 50 Lock here fighting in the Un'Goro Crater today and simply sizziling these Gorillas.... The "Apes of Un'Goro" quest is a quest that is red to me. I just stack Immolate, Corruption, and Curse of Agony/Elements... sick voidy, and light those damn dirty apes on fire with THIS GUN... It's one of life's simple pleasures. I love it, and it barely ever back fires. Good times.

Hoo yeah! Level 39 rogue here, loving this thing. Alliance raided Camp Taurajo recently, so I stealthed in, fired my defiler's talisman, followed by this baby, and must have done over 10k damage, since they were so tightly grouped. It ran out and I was almost dead and I finished with a goblin sapper charge. Actually killed a few level ? with that combo, and just then some of my guild mates arrived to clean up the wounded alliance.

Comes in handy in a million situations, and the 5 minute cooldown is decent enough I dont balk at firing this just for entertainment, while in a town.

The best thing to do is use it when your being mobed and just hold down the left mouse button and hit -> or <- on the arrow keys so you just spin around in circles and hit everyone around you ^_^

Alright....this post is to clear up any confusion that anyone way have. The dragon gun is, as far as I know, unaffected by +fire damage, +spell damage or any other similar effects. It is, however, arguably better then the death ray. Combined with a Sapper Charge and the Bomb Dispenser, you can deal massive amounts of AoE damage. The death ray and Harm Prevention belt does, in total, generally less damage total then the Goblin combo...

However, with the new 375 engineering out, this argument is less important. There are new devices that do more damage, such as The Bigger One and the Rocket Launcher.

You guys have to realize, this thing does 60-69 damage PER SECOND. That is raw dps. Couple that with the fact that you can hit groups of players with this at once, the damage is massive.

For instance... lets just say you are doing 60 damage per second and you have 3 players in your cone. You just increased your DPS by 180!

Look at the bigger picture before putting an item down.

Contrary to the comments, fire damage DOES affect the dragon gun. With me, instead of doing 60 per second, it does about 82 per second. Then again, I have only like 12 fire damage increase.

Well.... cant say its really useful in PvE but its REALLY useful in insts. In Gnomer for example the non-elite leper gnomes that usually swarm in groups of 5-6 are killed easily with this. I have a gnome rogue that at lvl30 was able to make this and use it(thank heavens for gnome racial - u nerf this Blizz an ull burn in hell!) And while a warrior/pally is tanking thos 6 leper gnomes + some random elite i just fire up this lil trinket and watch the lepers get roasted in thos 10 seconds. Takes off almost all of their hp =))) Just throw in a Solid Dynamite/Hi-Explosive bomb after this and they're toast. As my friend has said "Who needs a mage in group when ya hav an engineer" :P I'm also workin on a fire mage-engineer atm so no hard feelings there clothies ;D

Oh - and if it backfires i hope u have a fire protection pot with ya. Best way to kill off a crowd is Fire Protection Potion->Goblin Sapper Charge->Goblin Dragon Gun
If it screws up on ya ull have enough juice in the fire protection to hold off most of the damage. XD

With my 69 fire/destruction warlock (0/21/39(+1 @ 70)) I thought with the possibility of +spell or +fire damage, this might be pretty useful even at end game.

I did some testing on this item, and found that the item neither benifits from +Spell damage, OR +Fire damage. Also it does not benifit from +fire damage talents in anyway.

However, when using my warlock talent-ability "Demonic Sacrifice" on my imp, to gain the buff Burning Wish, the +15% fire damage buff did increase the dragon guns damage by 15%.

So, if you happen to have a lot of +fire damage buffs, this might be great up till maybe level 50 on a group.

High levels should pass this item over, there is no +spell damage or +fire damage benifit.

I love Engineering (never ever will i regret to have started my char as an engineer)

this Gun is just soo crazy good ! :D

I used it for grinding and i use it to hunt in general (even in duels its quite funny and always surprising ^^)

dont get the description wrong...its 60-69 damage PER SECOND. so it usually deals 600-690~ damage as AREA effect in 10seconds.. and that at a 5 minute cooldown! this trinket is just so lovely and i will ALWAYS use it when its ready ^^...when i was at lvl 40~ i used this baby to kill several mobs at once!

btw each damage *tick* can even critical and it also seems that it isnt affected by resists ^^ ...damage output often exceeds 900 damage..

when you use it (iam nightelf) you aim at the enemy with your hands and the flames burst out of them (quite awesome flamethrower animation!) its a channeled action so you cant move around (when u do it cancels the effect...so does casting or using any other ability)

but you can turn around and the cloud of fire around you looks so awesome when u turn around all the time ^^

Many Players freak out when they see me doing this and are like WTF IVE NEVER SEEN SOMEONE OF YOUR CLASS DO THIS! SH*T I WANT THAT, TOO!

its a great tool to have fun with ;) and its VERY useful due to its damage output, the low cooldown timer and the coolness factor =P

The only requirements are that you have to be a Goblin-specialized engineer, which requires level 30, and the skill to make it, which normally requires level 35 to be an artisan engineer (but gnomes get a +15 bonus).

So you will likely need to be a minimum of level 35 and you have to make it for yourself since it is bind on pickup. You cannot get one from someone else at all.

it say binds when picked up, so they are soulbound as soon as they are created, and require this side of engineering to create, so i dont think you can get it if you arent the engineer, and aren't in goblin engineering.

Happy to report a bug with the gun that will probably be fixed someday.

When the gun DOES explode, the 1000 DoT you get is put into your buff corner, NOT in your DEbuff corner, which means you can right click on it to cancel it and the damage will stop. Very handy since it only seems to explode on me when I actually need it to survive :)

...i forgot to tell that when this gun *explodes* it doesnt vanish from your char or inventory...it will still work and you can use it right again(the cooldown timer wont start), BUT it will make your char run around in circles while burning :D looks really funny ^^(deals about 1000 damage to you if youre unlucky :S 100 per second)

but this happens REALLY rare...happened to me only twice and i used it like 60 times or more often

I'd say about one in 40. I use it constantly and it's only blown up maybe 5-6 times. Rather entertaining tow atch actually :) Best part is you still have your gun after it goes boom.

just one comment - this is on same timer as bombs/grenades. That is, if you use this it puts the bombs/grenades on their one minute cooldown timer, and using a bomb/grenade puts a one minute cooldown on this - at least if its not on its own 5 minute timer (didnt test w/ gun on timer and using grenades in the middle of it). also - while its not precisely clear in the text, the dam is per second for the 10 seconds. I wasnt sure before I used it.

There's a lot of confusion about this currently. There are basically four types of items that can be made by engineers:

BoE items that can be used by any engineer and traded.
BoP items that can be crafted by a specific specialization, but used by any engineer
Items that require a specific specialization to use.
BoP items that can be crafted by an engineer, but can be used even after engineering is dropped

Gnomish Engineering allows you to craft these items:

If your intent is to switch to Goblin after crafting all the goodies (by dropping and re-leveling Engineering), you should probably craft all of these items, but you must craft Lunettes gnomes, Coq de combat gnome, Rayon mortel gnome, and Petit fumant (these are BoP) or you will lose access to these items permanently (unless you drop and re-level gnomish engineering again.

Transporteur ultra-sécurisé : Gadgetzan and Agrandisseur de monde cannot be used by a non-gnomish engineer, so you can skip crafting these if you're planning on switching.

NOTE: Rayon mortel gnome doesn't require Engineering to use, so technically, you could level Engineering to craft this item, and drop it and still be able to use it.

This thing is awesome. When tanking a dungeon I keep this in a trinket slot, and rotate other trinkets like the mortar and bomb dispenser through the other slot as their cooldown comes back. I usually use this in emergencies, or when I know it's going to be a pull with a lot of mobs.

This trinket is a channeled effect, meaning you are not melee attacking while it's active. It rarely misfires, but when it does, you will be conflagged for 5 seconds; this misfire does not waste the trinket's cooldown, however, so you can immediately cast it again afterwards.
