The crumpled up note is dropped off any mob in the BRD area...It can be obtained from the neutral miner mobs outside the instance or from the elite dark iron dwarves...Easily soloable part of the Onyxia Key Quest line.

You are going to want to take that note to marshal windsor in BRD. He is going o ask you to kill Angerforge and then the Golem lord all in BRD and get his lost information for him. Then you take that stuff back to windsor and the quest continues....

It seems as though Draenei are having a hard time with this quest. Reports are that they (Draenei) can not pick up this item as they're not being flagged as Alliance. Tseric has openly stated on the Blizzard forums that this is a bug that they are in the process of fixing.

Statistics are correct. Quarry Slaves have them as the most common drop. I picked it up on only my 2nd kill.

Do I need to be done with the first set of chain quests to loot this? I am currently on the quest to first talk to marshal windsor and was wondering if I could just farm this so I wouldn't have to later on.

Note that the drop rate is actually quite high. These drop percentages are misleading as they account for kills after this quest has been done as well as kills before this quest is available. Just go outside of BRD when you have reached this part of the Onyxia attunement and you should get it fairly quickly. It took me about ten kills to get the drop.

yes it drops also from the ones before the instance. killed 2 slaves after giving the q in morgans vigil.

The note is easy to get - and its a group loot item. You need to make sure you have finished Abandoned Hope first. If not, you won't be able to get the note. The quest line goes as follows:

Dragonking Menace - The True Masters (all 4 parts. Takes you from Redridge, to SW, Redridge, then Morgan's Vigil in the Burning Steppes). Talk to Ragged John, then Marshal Maxwell. From there find Marshall Windsor in BRD and complete Abandoned Hope (going back to Vigil and talking to Maxwell). From here you need to find the crumpled note that drops. You get the quest "A shred of hope" turns into Jail Break then Stormwind Rendevous, and then the Great Masquerade. After given the gem you need to hit the cave in winterspring for the key to Onyxia's lair.

In my opinion The Great Masquerade is one of the best quests. Very fun to sit back and enjoy. I would love to see more quests like this

i had to kill HUNDREDS of millions of them. I began to think that id id something wrong, it took me like 45 minutes at least to get the note. I killed about 100 no jokes. I was about to leave, and then one guy dropped it finally... This is NOT an easy drop.

I was killing the non elite 46-48 slaves outside of instance.

The note dropped of the first miner I killed in BRM. When you enter the grinding Quarry, directly on the left there are 2 miners.... I took the one closest to me and BINGO... I think I was lucky.

It only took me the killing of about 20 quary slaves. Then I killed 1 elite in the quary and got it.

It is easier to get the note off of the Slaves - Non-Elites!

I killed about 4 of them before it dropped !

i have killed so many i have lost count, they say that the overseer's have a 100% drop rate... couldnt be further from what i experianced, killed atleast 80....i still dont have my note

Looks like there was one bugged overseer at the top. Regular overseers have < 1% rates.

Just for those that have problems getting this. I spent 5 hours today killing the slaves and the elites outside of BRD and still no crumpled note. And yes i am on the right part of the quest line to get it. Sometimes things just don't drop :/

I have the quest 58D "A Crumpled Up Note"; the questlog tells what this note says. Apparently I am supposed to return it to Windsor in the dungeon. I went there in a group, could not get him to take it/respond.

SO: having this QUEST in my LOG, do I HAVE the note and Windsor was buggy that day not taking it/giving me next quest in the chain, or must I grind and FIND the note, even though my quest log TELLS me what the stupid note SAYS?

I just got the note to drop right before the entrance to BRD.We was in there id say maybe 8-12 mins.It can be done without entering the Instance.

I Have destroyed hundreds of slaves now, i have about 200 magewave cloth and several greens, i even found a boe epic item (lei of lilies).

I have gotten no note so far

Found the note on the Quary Slaves outside the instance. Got it in about 10 kills. The 1% drop chance is accurate. Some people will luck out and get it in the first couple kills, others may have to kill over a hundred of the little blighters.

10 minutes it took (for me 60 pally and a 60 mage) to find the note when grinding outside the instance.

The note also seems lootable by everyone in the party. (After it has been looted for the random junk)

I always loke hearing about how people get things on the first couple kills. I on the otherhand, spent about 1 hour farming and killed about 50-60 slaves in front of BRD.

They broke it.. myself and a friend killed about 80% of BRD and cleared the ring of slaves twice and it never dropped.. either I have inhumanly bad luck or they screwed up and cut it out in the last patch or took it out intentionally.

After spending 5 hours in BRD looking for the note to drop I received a reply from a GM that there is currently a bug with Draenei Shamans that makes the drop rate so minute it's almost pointless to do the quest.... do yourself a favor and skip it

i cant f***ing belive it! after talking to the guy in the prison cell i didnt turn in the quest so me and my group just kept on killing things for about an hr! then i come here and find out i need to turn in the quest first -_- i was so pissed i screamed

I am a level 70 NE druid on EU.Chogall

I took a level 48 friend on that quest...
I made him finished that quests-serie : https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=4182/la-menace-des-draconiens. He got to Maxwell and choose its final reward as the 2 other players in the group did.

Then, after getting back in the instance, those two other players got their Crumpled up note within 3 minutes (dwarfs) whereas my level-48 (dinged 49) friend did not drop it on the following one hour and a half ..

Then, by reading this: https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=4264/une-note-chiffonnée (the beginning of the next quest serie), I suppose that you have to have finished the previous serie AND be at last at level 50 in order to see this on a corpse.

lol, just read these comments on where to find the note cos im getting attuned so i can complete foror's compendium of dragon slaying Q, headed to BRD but stayed in quarry 1st, killed warden(he only dropped silver) then killed a slave and it dropped, not that hard to get =)

As of 9-23-06 I found my Note on the first Anvilrage Overseer I killed. I had killed 2 Anvilrage Wardens before that with no drop, killed the overseer and bam. Just past the elf who transports you to Molten Core.

Easy and VERY fast solo if you can take the Quarry Slaves outside BRD.

I much recommend soloing this part of the questchain nowadays.

Ok, once upon a time I got the note and the quest. Later, I threw the note away and cleared my character. Got a GM to restore the character and now im trying to get another note. After farming forever, I realized that I still had the quest in my log. I dropped the quest and farmed some more still with no luck. Do i need to be patient and keep farming, speak to a GM, talk to windsor again? Any advice would be great. Thanks

Drop rate isn't as low as it seems, you just need to do the Dragon Menace quest chain before it can drop. Dropped after about 8 guys outside the instance.

You might not see some ! if your level is too high because some quests can already be started under level 50. So you might need to talk to the quest givers directly to see if they offer a quest.

Can confirm this still drops from the non elite slaves on the outside of the instance. I had to clear them out a couple times, but it wasn't bad. Just make sure you already did the quest to talk to Marshal Windsor and turn in the report to the Marshal at the flight point in Burning Steppes before you start farming for the note.

I got this off of a slave outside the instance. I took me about 40 kills, not one or two like others have posted. But it does drop outside during Classic.

Unfortunately (very unfortunately) you are likely to be grinding quarry slaves for a long... *sigh* long while. Some things to know:

All quarry slaves are shaman-types - they have a heal and a lightning. Some of them also have a throw-knife ability, though apparently not all of them.
Quarry slaves are not supported by dark iron elites - pulling them will not chain dark irons, nor will runners alert them.
Quarry slaves are supported by other quarry slaves, and can chain pull, assist heal, etc.
This is a high-traffic area, and there are LOT of pissed off people on their way to BRD, fresh from being ganked/camped by the opposing faction. If you're on a PvP server, you should expect to be jumped.
