This is a great trinket. For Marks hunters it serves in and out of raids. No reason not to try for it. Just get the book (via farming or buying) and turn it in with an elf in the DM:North Library.

With the new stat changes to hunters, this trinket is even better now. It use to be the equivelant to about 24 agi, now it's the equivelant of 48 agility. Definitly worth the time to get.

I bought mine cheap when Dire Maul was getting farmed by the Hunters, drops from bosses in Dire Maul.

this is the quest reward from a quest, started by a book dropped in DM. Each class have their own version.

I got there from DM North. You need the Crescent Key for this, and rogues / druids can easily solo sneak there, for other groups it involves very few fights, so it's a quick one.

In the area right after you enter into the instance DM north, go down into the grass area, with the bonfire and ogres and dogs, and enter the tunnel to the library through the door in the wall down there. No more fights after that door.

Actually, neither of them are idiots. The trinket is class specific with the same name...There is one for warlocks, one for hunters, etc. The one that is linked just happens to show what it shows. Each quest comes from a book with a different name, but gives an item with the same name.

Harnessing Shadows is the name of the Book.. it's a drop in Dire Maul instance and it looks like it has a chance of dropping off of anything there. You have to return the book to a place in Dire Maul once you get it... and then you get this item as a reward.

For a long fight where you are casting non-improved, non-damage-increased Frostbolt rank 10 as fast as your mana regeneration allows, whether 8 mana/5 secs or +23 spell damage (The warlock/shaman trinket bonus) is better depends on your current mana regeneration rate and spell damage. Whichever has a higher percent increase of mana regen or spell damage is better.

For example, take Frostbolt rank 10. With no + spell damage equiptment and no critical hits, it does an average of 446 damage per hit. 23 damage is about 5.15% of 446. +8 mana /5 secs = 1.6 mana/sec. 1.6 is 5.15% of 31, so if you regenerate more than 31 mana per second, +23 spell damage is better. If you regenerate less than 31 mana per second, +8 mana / 5 secs is better.

The more dps you do, the better the mana regen is. The more mana regen you have, the better the spell damage is. However, the difference is always quite small, usually 2-3 dps.

actually, fire resist is not THAT important as many people claim.

Here is what's now like the requirement from my experience:

Tank: 100 base fire resist for normal mobs is plenty. 150 is preferable for geddon and 250+ for ragnoras.

Melee: 50 base fire resist is plenty against normal mobs, 100 or so is good against Geddon and 250+ for ragnoras.

Range: no fire resist required for trash. 50 is more than enough for geddon and 100+ ragnoras. (try to get 150 if your guild is relatively new to MC.)

Fire damage of the MC mobs:

Firelords: half fire, half physical it is not that powerful and any paladin/priest that don't dispel soulburn needs to be slapped.

Lava spawn: Low damage fireball (relatively speaking) They should be killed immediately anyway.

Ancient Core hound/core hound packs: front fire breath, but a good tank will tank them facing away from the raid so he is the only one that is being burned.

Lava surger/annihilator: physical attack only, knocked into the lava is your own fault.

The giants: physical attack only.

The imps: only physical attack.

Lucifron: shadow/phyiscal

Magmadar: see ancient core hound. If you insist on stay in the fire, that is your own problem.

Gehannas: rain of fire, again, if you insist on standing in it, it is your own fault.

Garr: physical. Getting blew up don't count.

Geddon: living bomb is not something you try to resist.

Shazzah: arcane explosion is NOT fire damage :P

harbinger: see the other fire eels.

Golemagg: The debuff is not effected by resist.

Majordomo: not fire here really.

Ragnoras: the only one that actually require massive fire resist.

If you ask me these Trinkets is not very Balanced... Look at the Priest Trinket: +33 Healing Spells and 4 mana every 5 seconds. And then look at Warrior Trinket: +200 Armor... Not really fair, is it...

all the royal seals are rewards if you can hand in books. they drop off the main bosses in DM and need to be handed into the DM library. the librarian will reward you with whichever trinket, depending on your class...
i agree with the above. i got the seals for my mage and hunter and i have to say that i never put on my mage one unless im desperate for FR in mc. its utter useless since each of my frostbolts are about 300 mana...which means id have to wait over a minute and by which time id be dead, having only 2k life as a mage :(

I know I probably sound like such a n00b asking this, but can someone explain all this about the books and the library please. The only time I went to DM was for my dreadsteed, and since then i've never been, and i really want this trinket so can someone explain this to me.

In DM, books for all classes drop, the drop is kinda rare but u can also find the book in AH. This book gives u a quest, the quest is very simple. It ask u to go in the DM and speak to some1 in the library. he will give u as a reward for giving back the book the trinket.

yeah warrior trinket also suck, its all about fire resistance on this baby, 200 armor? wtf almost nothing

#1 this trinket used for fire resistance
#2 what ever ur class trinket gives u is just a little bonus, nothing more
#3 even if it only had 10 FIRE resistance and nothing else, still would ebe very usefull for MC/BWL
#4 dont cry, there are much much beter trinkets to use outside of MC/BWL that add way more bonuses/spell dmg than any of these seals,

i only use this for MC outside of raids this is almost useless

Why get this when you can get Counterattack Lodestoneand mark of the chosen or vigilance charm? imo this things crappy compared to the other class's quests and it shames hunters.

If you solo a lot and aren't in the Marksman skill branch, then this counts as a rank 2 Trueshot Aura, except it won't add onto any party members or your pet, =/.

this is very good for @#$%^&*s, but the rogue trinket is +2% hit, which is for high end instances mostly. that sucks, since pvp>pve :(

If the text says "+50 attack power" it means for both ranged and melee.

But at this trinket it says "+48 ranged attack power"
and I guess I dont have to explain why.. ^^

This kinda sucks for survivalist hunters. Getting up close and personal is way more fun than ranged. I have Ward of Elements and Blackhand's Breadth equipped.
