Unfortunatly, the large ones have a poor drop rate in comparison to the small ones and even mining the Large Obsidian Chunks more often than not gives small ones instead of any large ones.

If you can get enough of these with the small ones, there are some very, VERY good crafted items that can be made by Blacksmiths. For mail users, especially hunters, Black Grasp of the Destroyer are EXCELLENT gloves to have. For plate/shield users, there are some very nice pieces as well.

Even at 70, the gloves are extremely good for DW Shaman, depending on the speed of the weapons it can be upwards of 50 mana per 5, with semidecent crit and hit. I'm pretty sure WF would proc this as well, but I'm not sure

Atleast Moam at AQR drops Large Obsidian vein, looted one shard so far..

One on raid looted large shard from small vein, id say there is just low droprate on small and large veins

i mined all the obsidian veins in AQR but the large obsidian vein dropped only 3 small obsidian shards

My raid took our first try at Serakam(First Boss in AQ40) yesterday, the mobs preceding him respawn every 30 min, making it one attempt per respawn as the fight with him lasts nearly 10 min. During our many reclears we collected around 70 small shards and 7 large shards from the obsidian mines dropped by the mobs. So if you have a chance to go on a farming run of these guys (unlikly unless you have a good group, definitly non PUG) for rep, make sure you have someone with 305 mineing along, they give great Brood rep along with tons of shards.

I mined it 20 minutes ago ;). Moam in AQ20 droped the vein. Looted 1 Large Obsidian Shards. Also looted 6 Small Obsidian Shards and 1 essence of earth of trash mobs on the way to Moam. Require mining 305 to mine it.

What i Did was enchant a pair of White gloves, so when i cant make the runs, i would give them to a guild to use

i was just wondering how much on a average that u guys have seen the large obsidian shards go for. i know they are controlled by a guild but at some point i'm sure someone has sold some, and curious to know if anyone has seen a price. i have been checking for a while now and it seems on my server they are still needed by the guild that gets them.

On my server (Feathermoon) they are rarely seen at auction and usually go for 35-50g

The ratio of small to large is vastly out of sync.

Overall, should get a 4:1 to fit amount used by the various recipes. As it stands, it's closer to 25:1
