This, along with the Bold Living Ruby (8str), is the best DPS gem for enhancement shamans, according to the mathematical calculations of WoW Gear Optimizer. I'd put this in my gear any day. Shame the recipe is so hard to get your hands on :)

Best choice for melee spec shaman in PVE. For all yellow sockets!
(And 8str for all red sockets, and 6sta+4str for all blue).

Gonna throw out some thoughts here...

First, I see this gem only as useful in a red slot.
Amongst warriors this gem is most valuable for an Arms spec. Your gear already has lots of attack power built in, so adding some crit to a red slot that would otherwise just be straight ap is helpful. Yellow slots I see +8 crit gems in, nice they are also a cheaper gem. One caveat: an arena context might change things, I am still uncertain about whether the effects of resilience are enough to start leaning towards maxing attack power at the expense of crit. Reslience being a nerf to your crits, thus making it less productive.

A fury warrior wouldn't get much use from this gem. Fury gear sacrifices attack power for crit and hit, so a red slot is most productive at getting some of that attack power back. Your yellow slots are gonna have +8 hit gems in them; unless you like seeing that white "Miss" keep popping up.

got 2 of these for 17 G a piece on AH. Burning Blade EU. Placed them in my Ragesteel Shoulders, to give a nice AP and crit boost.
Though, since they usually sell for 40G a piece on BB, i don't know what was inside the head of the guy who made them, when he sold them that cheap.
