This item is going to be a hot ticket for Leatherworkers when it's released - it'll net them a lot of money. I know that I'll want one as soon as possible, and my friends will as well. I would personally expect some high prices on the Auction House for the materials, so either wait it out for them to go down, catch them early, or save up your gold.

Like somebody else said on the forums:

(existing) carrot + (existing) glove enchant + (existing) spurs = 10%
(new) riding crop = 10%

and the latter does not stack with any of the former. The idea seems to be that you no longer need to take up spots in your bag for just riding boots and riding gloves and a trinket; now you just have the one trinket. Sounds good to me.

Carrot/spurs/gloves gives 9.25%, so the trinket is slightly faster. If you can stack two of them, that would rock.

* This trinket does NOT stack with other mount-speed increasing items.
* This trinket does NOT stack with mount speed increasing effects from spells such as Crusader Aura.
* It does give approximately 1.5% more mounted speed than the Enchant Gloves - Riding Skill/Mithril Spurs/Carrot on a Stick combo (and saves two bag spots).

This has been tested with visual comparison to other players with varying degrees of speed enhancing items as well as with speed measuring in-game mods.

Just got this bad boy made. Cost me about 150g in materials but IMO it's worth it just for the extra bag space and not having to switch around so many items every time you mount. Highly recommended :)

This is quite usefull for skilling up Leatherworking. It doesn´t sell for much more than the price of the mats, but at least it sells which isn´t true for most of the other craftable crap.

It's exactly the same as Riding Crop, but the thing is that they don't stack because blizzard has said that mount speed increase is capped at 10%.

This doesn't make the Riding Crop obsolete though because impatient people will buy one anyway. The quest reward above requires 300 Riding Skill (5,000 gold) and completing a quest line. The Skybreaker Whip is for the patient.

If you don't want to download a mod to automatically switch to this when you mount up, use the following macro when you mount and when you dismount.

/equip {trinket you usually put in your primary slot}
/equip Riding Crop
/use {your mount}
/dismount

This will equip the Riding Crop when you mount up and equip your regular trinket when you dismount.

this is a fairly good trinket esspc. wen your running from the opposite faction sadly it dosnt stack with any other movement speed increasing effecst spurs-carrot on a stick exc also this is the best thing and cheapst way get your LW from 360-365 till you can make battle drums rest is alot of gold due to primals i helped a frined get his up they sale for 250g on my realm since im a 375 skinner and an enchanter the mats were fairly easy to get so i made gold and he got his leather working up i wish the rest of you luck on leather working and running from oppisite faction ;)

decided to make one of these after I got the epic flying mount.

Farming the motes (for a guildy to convert to primal might) took less than 2 hours on Elemental Ridge (access by flying mount only though) above Altar of Elements in Nagrand and in Netherstorm for the mana.

My alt is an enchanter, so I had all the dusts and shard ready.

Noticeable speed difference :)

Used Fubar_SpeedFu for testing. Used running mode on even surface instead of flying to reduce glitches. (Sloped surfaces give incorect reading because there's no Y coordiante to put into speed equation).

Carrot on a stick, mithril spurs and gloves enchant provide a constant +15% speed. Meaning epic normal mount runs at 215% your running speed and non-epic flying gives 175.

Now the interesting thing is. When you equip the Crop - you get 176% on flying. With or without the other items.

Theory: 10% is not run speed dependant, but total mounted speed dependant.
Test: Using crop anly on normal epic mount gives 220% speed.

Verdict: You can put everything else in your bank until blizzard notices what they did :)

And now that I've tested it on an Epic flying mount, I get 418% speed. (100base+280mount)*1.10.

Bought it for 200g,started the CT stopwatch, ran the same distance with the trinket on, and without (Crusader Aura on both times) and i got the same results! DOES NOT STACK with Crusader Aura!

I dont worry about enchants, spurs, or carrots until level 69 XD. Paladin' pursuit of justice rocks. sure if you have all those dodads and do hickeys your go faster than me but its by a very small margin. so *bleh* to you.

Right on Blizzard's web site they say "The Riding Crop provides a 10% speed boost to ground and air mounts. It does not stack with any other enchant or speed boosting object so once you have it, that's all you need. (Carrot on a Stick, you've served me well!)"

i have a question
since it doesnt stack with any other effects does that mean i can get rid of the crappy ass lvl 20 gloves with the enchant and stop worrying about spurs and sell my carrot once and for all?
blizzard says its all you need
so it sounds like the 10% from the crop is the same amount as carrot, spurs, and enchant put together
think its a better idea to keep the carrot gear? or sell it all and equip a crop?
and if theyre both the exact same speed, what would possess someone to spend 130g on a riding crop?

I don't think this thing stacks, I just learned how to make it and it says "Unique-Equipped Trinket". Besides even if it weren't unique it would share the same global cool down so would be useless to have two.

MonkeySpeed v2.5.1 shows speed increase due to Riding Crop is multaplicative, yielding 220% mount speed on an epic land mount.

Okay guys no one really said where you exactly get the pattern so I might as well explain.

You goto Caverns of Time Old Hillsbrad and you head to southshore. (Your desguised as a human so its cool for horde too) head to the dock and talk to the vendor there.

I am surprised at the amount of negative/dawdy post about this crop. I would think bag space is very valuable and people would easily prefer to get this rather than permanently sacrifice 3 spaces for carrot, boots with spurs and gloves.

I don't know about you by my riding gear is different from my normal gear which I suspect most people have in common.

I definitely think anything that frees up my bag space x 3 and adds an extra 1% is good. Isn't it better 1 extra percent than none?

All you need to know about flying speed is written on Wow website just quoting:

"# Any item, effect, or enchantment that would affect land mount speed also applies to flying mounts. These include Carrot on a Stick, Mithril Spurs, Riding Crop, Crusader Aura, and the glove enchant for mount speed.
# The Riding Crop provides a 10% speed boost to ground and air mounts. It does not stack with any other enchant or speed boosting object so once you have it, that's all you need. (Carrot on a Stick, you've served me well!)
# The Paladin can travel faster than anyone else while using the Crusader Aura speed buff. This is a 20% boost to land and flying mount speed.

ok... there seem to be alot of people under the impression that the riding crop and cursader aura add the exact percent they say for example. with the riding crop "incresses mount speed by 10%" you think ok "so if im on my ground epic ill go 210% speed. (100%running+100%mount=200%+10%crop=210%)" WRONG! its is 10% OF 200% so you will be going 220% speed. (100%running+100%mount=200%total+20%crop=220%) same with crusader aura wich adds 20% you will be riding at 240% (100%running+100%mount=200%total+40%crop=240%) NOT the 220% (100%running+100%mount=200%total+20%crusader=220%) people seem to think.

for this reason speed increasing items/auras such as the riding crop or the crusader aura are more effective the faster the mount is naturally. because of course 10% of a number with a greater value would be greater than 10% of a number with a lesser value.

so if we apply this to the epic flying speed of +280% we find that with the riding crop you will be crusing at a nice 418% speed (100%running+280%mount=380%total+%38crop=418%)with the riding crop, and if your a pally well then lucky you because you will be flying at 456% speed! (100%running+280%mount=380total+%76crusader=456%)

now if any of you do not belive me or think "NO NO HES WRONG!." before you go and rate my post down and reply with your coments. i sugest you download an addon such as monkey speed, fubar - speedfu or titan speed and see for your self the numbers. then if you find anything wrong lets hear it.

in conclusion. the riding crop(10%) and cusader aura(20%) add the percent of the total speed (normal speed of running+what ever mount you are on) to your movment speed.

Well I have CONFIRMED that riding crop will not simply add 10% to your increased mount speed.

The way it works is a little different than most people think, but it works out in our favor.

Most people believe that let's say we equip this with our 100% epic land mount, your mount will now make you go 110% faster. Right? WRONG

If you read the tooltip, it states quite clearly what it does. "Increases mount speed by 10%". So let's look at this logically. What exactly is your speed when mounted (we will use epic land mount as an example). Is it 100%? No, it is your walking speed increased by 100%. So in fact, your speed is 200% of walking speed.

So to increase your speed when mounted by 10%, you need to increase your total movement speed by 10%. This is done simply by multiplying your speed by 1.1 (increasing it by 10%).

So, if we do this (200 * 1.1) = 220%. So your total speed when mounted is 220% of your walking speed, which is 120% faster than walking speed. So in fact with riding crop on an epic land mount, you do not go 110% faster than walking speed, but in fact 120%.

Let's do this with another example, let's say our epic flying mount with a riding crop.

Well, we include our base speed of 100% walking speed, which when on an epic flyer is increased by 280%. So you are now moving 380% of your walking speed.

380 * 1.1 = 418%

Therefore your total speed when mounted is 418% of your walking speed. So your riding crop effectively increases your mounts speed increase to 318%.

This at first was hard to believe, but it made sense when I noticed myself going faster than a gladiator mount.

This was tested 100% to be correct by racing a gladiator reward epic flyer (known to go 310% faster) without a riding crop, versus a normal epic flyer WITH a riding crop. The results were very clear that the gladiator mount could not keep up with the epic flyer equipped with riding crop.

Hope this clears up some issues.

The pattern can be bought by a vendor in the Old Hillsbrad. just enter the dungeon even without a group and go to the village of Southshore via the roads following the signs. The guy is patroling from Tarren Mill to Southshore. I just waited him on the road at the town's entrance. His name is Thomas Yance and selling the pattern for 5g.

Easy summary for people playing Classic!

There are 4 tiers of speed enhancements. These tiers DO NOT STACK WITH EACH OTHER, so if you have a better tier, you cannot get any of the bonuses from any of the lower tiers.

Tier A: Paladin's Aura de croisé (+20% mounted speed), given at level 62 in TBC.
Tier B: Paladin's Poursuite de la justice, Talent 3/3 (+15% mounted speed AND on-foot runspeed), requires 13 points in the Retribution talents. NOTE: Before TBC, in vanilla, it was only +8% speed and required 12 points.
Tier C1: Trinket Patron : Cravache d'équitation (+10%), created by leatherworkers. Despite what you may think, it DOESN'T stack with ANY other items/enchants (from the lower tiers).
Tier C2 ("Free" Alternative): Trinket Fouet de brise-ciel (+10%, Quest Reward), gained by learning Epic Flying at level 70, becoming Honored with the Netherwing, and defeating all of their races in the sky and defeating the final quest, Course Gueule-de-dragon : Capitaine Fracasse-ciel (something a lot of players give up on due to the difficulty of beating the racers).
Tier D: The "vanilla WoW solution": Carotte et bâton (+3%, Quest Reward) and Formule : Enchantement de gants (Equitation) (+2%) and Plans : Eperons en mithril (+4%) = Around 9%, but not exactly due to how multipliers stack, but it's less than 10%.
