Pretty much a constant extra 35 damage bonus under normal raiding circumstances, no hidden cooldown. Equivalent to around 175 AP. Affected by things like crit, armor mitigation, etc. A solid hunter trinket imo.

This is a weak Hunter trinket. The proc affects most shots, so Steady, Multi, Arcane, Silencing and Aimed.

I picked this trinket up last night and I will agree it does not appear to affect auto shot. At a glance I noticed no increase in auto shot damage while the buff was up and my "damage" tooltip on my character sheet also did not increase. Arcane shot tooltip did show an increase though.

I plan to test this later with a ranged weapon with no damage range to see if that is truly the case.

I got it and tested with a starter bow/low level arrows and it doesnt increase the autoshot damage :(

I hope that is bugged and soon to be fixed else this trinket isnt that imba as it looked at the first sight

• Talon of Al'ar: The bonus damage to all Shot abilities now provides the full bonus to Scatter Shot and Silencing Shot.

That's being said, all special shots including arcane shot should be working with this trinket by the next patch.

Personally as a 24/37 survival hunter i am going to stick with steady shot and multishot and not use this trinket. As long as it doesnt increase autoshot damage, i expect more return by using one passive crit-trinket and one burst damage trinket to use with other cooldowns when its needed.

As a BM hunter, you should be able to get 3 special shots (steady / multi / arcane) within 6 sec of an arcane shot, which still makes this trinket turn out 120 damage every 6 seconds, or 20 DPS before crit. Factor in 30% crit and you're looking at 28.6 DPS.

Compared to Hourglass of the Unraveller (much easily attained), it's a nice upgrade. You can guestimate that the Hourglass, assuming it procs every 60 sec (based off WWS logs with 30% buffed crit rate), is worth roughly 16 DPS overall (I estimate based off WWS logs that 1 paperdoll DPS translates into 2 actual DPS).

So the Talon is a roughly a 12.5 DPS upgrade, or something like 87 AP by the same estimate, while being more consistant overall.

However, the Talon does have the downside of doing nothing for your pet. No AP damage bonus, no extra focus from GftT, no extra KC procs.

i honestly feel that hourglass of the unraveller is better because of the raw crit, and arcane shot is such a mana drain that in the end it will end up draining your mana which causes you to do less dps, unless for some odd reason your a hunter in a shadow priest group

Even if you use Arcane Shot regularly, this trinket is garbage.

The problem of course is that it only effects 2 shots, Steady Shot and Multi Shot. If it effected Auto Shot, it would be the 2nd best trinket behind DST. With it not effecting Auto Shot, it's worse than dungeon blue's.

Could you not use this trinket as an opener for Misdirection. With a stop cast macro of Arcane shot, Aimed Shot, Steady Shot. this would be viable for greater aggro. and since you would have a stop cast sequence would you not be able to swap trinkets after the Misdirection cast?

It's tragic but true. With imp arcane shot I have a 5 second CD on arcane shot with a 6 second duration on the damage buff from this trinket, effectively allowing this buff to be up constantly. But as was mentioned above, it does not apply to auto-shot, which takes it from being potentially one of the greatest hunter trinkets in the game to absolute garbage. I did some dps tests with this and compared to my previous trinkets, which are Tsunami Talisman and Berserker's Call, my dps is MUCH higher with those two. A static +40 damage increase would be positively amazing if this worked as it's tooltip indicated, and wasn't secretly gimped. I'd pass on this and save yourself the anguish of playing with it only to find out it sucks.

While normally this trinket is garbage, our hunter has found a use for it on the Lady Vashj fight. He takes the role of the kiter, and this trinket increases his damage for all his specials--which is all he's able to use while kiting the mob.

this trinket is Amaizing. just think about it, you do acrane shot every ~6 seconds, meaning it improves all the other shots by 35 for the whole time.

I was initially reluctant to get this trinket, but then decided to get it later on in our TK raiding at half dkp. I raid 0/21/40 survival. My main dps shot rotation is steady-arcane-auto, steady-auto, steady-auto, steady-arcane-auto, steady-multi-auto, repeat. The buff from this trinket is up all the time. It is not bad, but I would replace it in a second with a tsunami talisman or ashtongue rep trinket (which will come, but would still take tsunami over any other trinket). Anyway, if you have a crap trinket, this trinket is worth having for a while if you are MM or survival using the aforementioned shot rotation.

Who knows, maybe is some patch it will be changed to affect autoshot as well, I have read that it does not, currently.

with the right shot rotation (you will know it when u get this far), this will give a hunter 35 more damage on EVERY shot, and should be about 20-30 more DPS overall, aka imba.

use this with improved arc. sh. an u can get full advantage of this trinket.I mean u can hit arc shot triger the trinket and than shot steady, auto, steady again arcane than steady, auto... and every 5 sec an arcane shot. this is great every shot has its dmg increased by 40. Otherwise with a 2.00 speed bow it means 10 dps. The slower the weapon the dps increased :D

I can't imagine many hunters using this in a raid. I just won it, and I doubt I'll use it for PvE unless I go survival. Arcane shot uses waaaaay too much mana for long boss fights, and is useless in a shot rotation unless you have that mana refund that survival hunters do. Like the person above me says, for raids I will use Dragon Spine Trophy and Blood Lust Broach. For PvP I am gonna try the Talon, since I use arcane shot all the time in battlegrounds.
It's sad how many hunters think this is great... but it's probably better than some think. Everyone in my raid considers this trinket a joke and a waste of a drop, as well as the second worst class trinket... though I still think it's alright in certain situations. Basically I paid DKP for this to see if it gets buffed, and to try it out in a survival build.

I have the Darkmoon Card: Wrath so I always have that on, regardless of what spec I am. The other trinket I use depends on what spec I am...

As BM spec, I use Bloodlust Brooch because it makes up for BM's lack of pure attack power. Don't confuse that with DPS, because the faster attack speed of BM (Serpent's Swiftness) makes the DPS a lot higher.

As MM spec, I use Abacus of Violent Odds because of the lack of attack speed with MM. As MM I have roughly 2500AP, so throw in some haste rating with Rapid Fire and Berserking (troll racial) and I turn into a gatling gun.

As Survival spec, I use Hourglass of the Unraveller because it gives me a chance to get an AP buff every time I crit. I've heard it only proc's once a minute maximum, but the added crit from just having it equipped gives me about a 30-31% crit rate.

Well since this wont add to autoshot, then its garbage...
The bonus damage it gives is equal to 200AP on Steady shots.
But Dragonspine Trophy id better, the haste proces are godlike and there is a 40 ap boost to your auroshots which at 3 base speed is 16.8damage (5.6dps), 8 damage to steady (aint much but still)
As a nother end gsme trinket Tsunami Talisman, like does this need any comment? If you are a survival hunter tis is a MUST, or Hourglass of the Unraveller depends what you can get, the higher the crit the better for hunters, aggro reset ftw.
Even Bloodlust Brooch is better, not just the base ap gain but the active ability too.

ok,
i just got this trinket and im trying to figure out if its better than Blood Lust Brooch. i can tell u it DOES apply the plus damage to auto shot, the only shot it does not add the damage bonus to is arcane shot (read what it says: all OTHER damaging shots). i can tell u as a MM hunter with 1 pt in the improved arcane shot i kept the exact same shot rotation and almost never lost the buff. i have 2404 AP with BLB on and 2324 AP with the talon on and 23.24% crit . i guess the real question is can some1 tell me how much AP equals 40 damage. and theres the factoring in of the fact that arcane shot doesnt receive the damage buff and the loss of the use on the BLB. some1 with 1337 math skillz pls help.

What would be a better combo for a MM hunter, this trinket and BLB or Hourglass of the Unraveler and BLB? If i get the trinket off Leo the blind ill take that over this but they gave me this trinket since i was the only hunter and i'm not 100% sure which one is better.

It's terrible and useless, because it does not affect autoshot. Also, to get full effect you need to get Arcane Shot into your rotation every time it's up. Very mana inefficient, and not ideal for BM Hunters.

Basically? It's crap. My current Hourglass and BLB trinks (goddamn never got a DST and no luck on Berserker's Call or Tsunami), are both better than this. Just take a look at the other classes' trinkets to get a full understanding of how little care Blizzard has for the Hunter class.

sry but i think this item is a waste ...........too much mana to use arcane shot even if they made it for every shot............auto is the best shot we have no mana and good dps.........hmm i would use it for pvp but thts about it also the spine tropy and tsunami tasliman is a much better combo for pve

Tsunami and DST are probably better than this but I wouldn't rule out it being better that the rest for a properly specced MM

+40 dmg translate to a good amount of AP and scales well with attack speed. However the fact that it doesn't apply to Autoshot means that the trinket lose about 50% of its effectiveness and that's enough loss to make the trinket subpar and unattractive.

i think this trinket is very underrated. its 40 dam not 40 AP, so the 40 goes straight on top, and on multishot applies to everyone of the individual shots in the multishot. i often beat or come extremely close to fully p6 bis with dst hunters in gruul, and my hunter is still wearing 4 pc beast master, with this trinket and bladefist's breadth, not even bis gems or enchants. rotation is simple, arcane, multi, steady steady, arcane steady steady steady.
