Watch out, don't leave the bag unopened when you get it, there's one of these inside, here's why:

It surely doesn't work to keep a Darkrune, a Crystalforged Darkune and a Kronk's Grab Bag... If you hold all these and let the daily reset happen, you have basically just lost a shot at the Shartuul event.

So, how to avoid this? Just be aware that you can't hold more than one of each of these 3 unique items, and do the Shartuul event ahead of getting full, or on the same day you got a new bag. Always remember to open the bag when you get it, if you can't, that means you need to do the event as soon as possible, because obviously it has a new Darkrune in it. You need to use your current Crystalforged Darkrune and do the event before the next reset. This will allow you to do the event as well as Crystalforge a new one afterwards, since it all took place the same day.

However, if you have all of them and Gahk doesn't have the "Yous Have Da Darkrune?" quest, then you have let the reset go by. In this case you have already lost one darkrune whatever you do, when that happens you should just delete the bag so you can turn-in the "Banish More Demons" quest (usually it will be after having the quest done again and returning to the NPCs that you'll realize you already messed up by not having done it the day before). Being able to turn-in this quest is key to being able to Crystalforge a new Darkrune, so just getting rid of the bag is the single thing you need to do. You can also just delete the plain one and open the bag, same results = no bag, Darkrune, Crystalforged Darkrune. Then you can turn-in the quest and receive a new bag as normal.

To be safe, always keep only one Darkrune or none, not both plain and Crystalforged because you might not have time (or remember) to do the event again before the next daily reset.

The reset is at 4:00 EU, but in fact you should always do dailies preferably before 3:00 realm EU, turning in dailies after that time will make them done for the next day as well - this doesn't show right at the reset, but will happen when you log back in hours later, so you can still do them again right after the reset.

Also, there will be a Raw Darkrune ( https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=32642 ) item coming in a patch. This will apparently stack up to 20 and work in the same way as a normal Darkrune, 1 for each Shartuul event, therefore different than the Fragments ( https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=33784 ), which also be patched in. It's a quest item, so it's likely for it to come with a new repeatable quest, to allow you to turn it into a normal, unique Darkrune. This will allow you to Crystalforge a lot more than the 2 you currently can each day, so that in theory you can stack up the event 22 times and then do it in a single day... But mainly, it's obviously to prevent people from just losing their Darkrunes when they don't do the event along with the dailies for a couple days at a time.

Perhaps others are very clear what this item is for, but I wasn't.

In short, the darkrune itself seems to be only useful for turning in to get a Crystalforged Darkrune. The Crystalforged Darkrune is used to start an event which in the end might net you a nice depleted item.

Patch 2.2.0:
Fixed an issue wherein a character with a Darkrune would not be able to turn it in to Gahk in return for a Crystalforged Darkrune unless they first completed the daily quest "Banish More Demons" that day.

Has anybody received a Darkrune (not a fragment) from the grab bag since they introduced the fragments? I have not..

You get it by doing banishing the demons:(I think u need to be Honored to get it) https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/quest=11051. When you hand it in you get a bag which has a chance of having a darkrune, or a darkrune fragment: https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=33784#comments. If you get a Darkrune you can hand it in to the ogre with the blue ? over its head to get a crystal forged darkrune: https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=32602.

Now go north towards forge camp Wraith until you find a portal-like thing. Go inside and use it. If there is a electrical current surrounding it that means somebody is doing the event, if not then use the item inside the portal, BUT WAIT! I highly suggest you read about it first :P

I can't find any information on what Dark Rune is good for? What's the value in keeping this?

So im almost exalted with both ogrila and shatari, and i only got one of these from my first grab bag, and none since. I checked my bank and inventory over and over again and i dont have one. Is there another way to get these, or something im missing?

Gahk is not letting me convert my Darkrune to a Crystalforged. This is my second darkrune.

Update: I had complete the 15 banish quest again to get a Blue Question Mark above Gahk.

I did this quest early in the morning once and actually i did get a rune. I havent gotten a rune ever since though, and that was 2 weeks ago. It pains me to see how these worthless nubs who turn with A and D and cant even get to the first boss seems to get them every !@#$ing day though..

Banish the Demons now rewards either a Darkrune or a Fragmented Darkrune. Five fragmented Darkrunes can be combined to create a Darkrune.

I did the first banishing quest and received a darkrune. I went off to finish a couple of other quests and my bags were full so I started destroying things out of my bag. I accidently grabbed the darkrune and destroyed it. Now I cannot get accept the quest that requires the darkrune. How do I get another one? And the Banishing quest is not available to me.

The quest was @#$%ing fun, I did it first time as well, got Signet of the Corruptor or something.

Just wondering the dark rune doesnt say its BoP, can you trade them?

well I have done this three times now

Got two darkrunes on the first two, failed due to not enough crystal focuses. So I grind all day and eventually have 30. I do the daily and out of the bag I get...

Ive gotten two dark runes from the only two banishing quest ive done. I have no idea what they do and cant find any sources with information on their use, all are vague, go to a teleported and summon a demon. Okay? So why are these things valuable?

You talk to one of the ogres in Ogri'la to received a Crystalforged Darkrune which lets you start the Shartuul demon summoning event in northern area.

I saw they added arena 1 gear for regular honor today, was thinking maybe they fixed the darkrune event. Anybody tried the event after the downtime?

Its simple... the first time you do the Q you get a darkrune...
Then when you repeat the Q you get a Darkrune Fragment...
Meaning you need 5x darkrune fragment to get 1 darkrune before you can charge it again... hope you got some use from this info

I think when u Are Exalted u get bigger chance to get that Darkrune...... i am not sure but i got 4 darkrune in a row: ) and i am exalted: )
