This axe is a boon to levelling warriors. If you can get a friend to help you finish the quest at level 30, you'll be using it until you hit 40. Very useful.

If you are a warrior trying to decide what weapon to use between Whirlwind Axe, Ravager, or the Allliance SM Quest Reward then take the following things into note:

*Whirlwind Axe is a better axe than Ravager, though it has less Damage Per Second its stats make up for it. Also Ravager's proc will actually be a hinder to you in both PVE and PVP as you will most likely end up canceling it because you can't do anything while spinning around.

*The Alliance SM Quest Reward Axe is better than Whirlwind Axe, but the sword from the quest is nice for tanking. There is a 1H Sword from the RFD quests too though.

I'd personally keep Whirlwind Axe over both the axes because Ravager quite frankly sucks and the sword from SM is a better upgrade from your probably sucky green tanking weapon than the Axe even if you can get Vanquisher's Sword from RFD in a few levels.

This is one of three items that you can choose from, from the level 30 warrior quest.

-Quest starts from Klannoc Macleod on the Island just south of Ratchet in The barrens.
-He sends you to Hillsbrad Foothills. you want to follow the river that is just east of southshore or tauren mill North. you want to be on the east side as your following the river north till you see some ruins and a little hut. There you will find Bath'rah The Windwatcher.
-Bath'rah will then ask you to gather for him a few items so he can perform the ritual to summon the cyclonian.
-8 Liferoot
-30 Bloodscalp tusks. Found from the bloodscalp trolls in northern stranglethorn vale. they can be found southwest and west of nessingway's camp.
-Essence of the Exile, which you make in the pot close by Bath'rah, by combining 8 cresting,burning,thundering charms which you obtain from the Burning Elementals, Cresting Elementals, Thundering Elementals in Arathi Highlands. These can also be bought but expect high AH prices.
- Once you have all the items required, bring them back to Bath'rah and he will give you the quest to obtain the Cyclonian heart afterwhich he will move to his summoning circle and begin summoning the cyclonian.
-The Cyclonian is a level 40 elite, bring a friend or two if you aren't near 40 as he hits fairly hard.
-Return the cyclonian heart to Bath'rah and he will reward you with one of the Whirlwind Weapons.

When you reach 30 level is the best way to be the damage dealer!:)
But to earn it you will need a friend to help u to the quest (level 40+)
If you take it you will have it till 40 level then i think it is better than Ravager that you earn it from scarlet monastery at level 37. (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=7717) because whirlwind axe gives you too much strenght and stamina.....

Great axe from a terribly long quest. I have this and hop back and forth between this and the Sword of the Magistrate. Though I dont know if its just me but I seem to miss quite alot when using this (though my axe skill is totally maxed for my level)

This beats Ravager (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=7717) any day of the week. It's Stam bonus alone makes up for the 2 extra points of damage Ravager has. Plus it won't start you randomly whirling at the worst times.

Can anyone recommend a quest upgrade (Lv40+) for the Whirlwind Axe? Dropped items which can even begin to match the WWA are ridiculously rare (0.0%) for their level. Preferably something with an even better Stamina bonus on it. Good luck.

If you want to try getting this axe by yourself you'll probably have a better weapon by the time your strong enough to kill the Final Boss. Still a good axe up until around 40.

You CAN use TBC enchants on this weapon because the item level is lvl 40. I just enchanted Savagery on this and my warrior is only level 30.

Getting a Firey enchant on this weapon has so far been my biggest mistake, I cause more damage with my Outlaw Sabre and Windstorm Hammer. (Getting Omen and Vanquisher soon).

for me this was a long and boring qst but it paid off

1-the 30 tusks got some friends of mine and went farming for some qsts there for some ears nicklaces and 2 boss heads

2- the 8 life roots from AH

3-the charms were easy got some friends and went 2 each site and killed and w8ed and killed

4-killed the elite and got the axe u well get one wepon and see a tornado around u

A must have for any warrior leveling 30-50. I am level 35 right now and I've had it since lvl 30 and I put crusader on it. My slam crits are 500-600. Record was around 700 I think but that was with orc's blood fury + death wish + crusader proc. It does insance amount of dmg, my crits take off 1/3 to 1/2 of mobs health. Really awesome axe, nice looking too.

Got mine at lvl 32. Youll need a hand killing the 40 elite, but for the most part, a lot of the required items can be bought at the AH.

I found the quest to gather the materials for this weapon both frustrating and boring. It took me about three hours of farming, most of which consisted of searching the remains of elementals which didn't drop anything at all. I had to buy the Liferoot from the Auction House, since I'm not an Herbalist, but a fellow Warrior who was one helped me out and provided me with six out of the needed eight.

The fight with Cyclonian was not all that amazing or difficult, either. After attempting to take him one-on-one, the first time a horrible attempt as a result of a bad blunder on my part (I was applying a weightstone to my Cobalt Basher just as Cyclonian appeared and by the time I was done, he'd already knocked my HP down to 76%), the second time a much better match that still left me dead and Cyclonian at 24% HP. So, I called in some help.

Not even heavy help. I did this quest as a level 38 and had a level 36 Paladin for backup. No sweat.

When I was first told of the quest, I had originally intended to pick the mace, as I was already using a two-hand hammer and, as a human, I have the racial passive bonus with swords and maces. But, once taking the time to really plot out my talent build shortly before fighting Cyclonian, I decided to hell with racial passives, I am going for greater critical percentages and higher damage. Which left an obvious choice: Whirlwind Axe.

The axe, while having a slower speed, has a greater minimum and maximum damage. This translates into a more powerful Heroic Strike, Overpower, Critical Hit, Slam, and Execute. Not to mention a greater amount of damage over time from Deep Wounds after a Critical. Axes are also the only weapon, aside from polearms (which are really not worth consideration), which can allow added chances of Criticals.

And the hammer looks horrible. The sword is very nice to oggle, I admit, but the extra chance to gain an additional attack from Sword Specialization is, when you do the math, an utter waste of talent points. I know that some people insist on the greatness of Sword Specialization. I also know that some people insist on the greatness of Dual Wield and a Fury build. More importantly, I know that some people don't know what they are doing and I consider the aforementioned pseudo-Warrior, Rogue wanna-be bundle to have trouble understanding the numbers behind this game.

That said, I view Mace Specialization as -the most- pointless slot on the entire Warrior talent chart. People, there is a talent available to Warriors that is unspeakably better than a 5% chance to stun an enemy for 3 seconds. It's called Piercing Howl. It isn't a 5% chance. It's instant. And it doesn't just affect one target. It applies to all enemies in melee distance. And 3 seconds? Nope. Try 6. So why toss five talent points to get a flimsy additional 5% when it only costs you one talent point to get an instant? Because you're an idiot. That's why.

Oh, and I should probably mention that weapons with slower speeds have the nice benefit of a greater proc rate.

And besides...have you seen this axe? It's the size of my entire character! I guarantee it's the only Whirlwind weapon of the three that has a chance of making an enemy in the Battlegrounds a little intimidated.

Add a good enchant to this weapon. It will carry you through the 30's.

Apsolutely pointless to get. You work forever for it but you can get Bonebiter by doing a Scarlet Monastery quest.

When I read this forum thinking it was gonna take forever, i found out it only took me a little under 3 hours. i had a lvl 60 in my guild run me through the elementals to get the charms, which is perhaps the hardest part of the quest. next, i ran over to STV to kill some trolls, in which a lvl 40 from guild helped me with which took only 30 minutes. then, i had a 51 help me kill Cyclonian, and i got the axe, all at lvl 32.

Hello together,

I got the Whirlwind Warhammer yesterday and I'm happy to got it with my lvl 30 Warrior cuz it is REALLY imba for this lvl. I put a +15 Strength Enchant on it because +30 Strength rocks. I respecced from Swords to Mace specialication and now have a 6% chance to, as already mentioned above, SHUT DOWN the enemy and this 6% are proccing very often. The only thing which #$%^s me off a bit is the *tock* *tock* sound while hitting.

Some additional info since patch 1.10:

Warrior has some skills which do weapon maxdamage + x
Since 1.10.1 this maxdamage will be calculated from the wow-engine via weaponspeed 2.7 so it TOTALLY does not matter which weapon you choose, all the same stats, all the same dps (yeah .2 difference but this is as wayne as my pink panties :P) and because of this, all have the same results in speed calculation of 2.7

I've spent lotsa hours in deciding which weapon i'll go for but as i already said, they are all the same so choose by style.

Btw: I pwnt TWO lvl 35+ mages and a lvl 36 Rogue yesterday all two- or three-hitted in Stranglethorn Vale. The mage was thinking something like
"WTF o_O why I was stunned all the time? 8["

i got this axe at lvl 34. the axe for one is amazing id say one of the best 2h "obtainable" wepons for the range of 30-38 may-b more if you have bad luck. the only thing is if you want this axe, and decided to ninja Kreshes back all the way back at WC time, basically meaning u have no freinds it's "!very!" hard to obtain. A long... long.... quest. i did it all bymyself at 33 managed to lvl to 34 with a lil help from a 60 bud near the ending. all in all sexy axe -worth- the hours.

I got this axe at level 30 and at 31 I put crusader on it. at level 34 i was the top of the 30-39 WSG bracket.and recently at 41 i got my highest crit with it which was 2031. i love this axe so much, it will never get disenchanted or sold... it will stay in my bank forever.

now im a 42 Tauren warrior and still using it, im waiting to get Kang the Decapitator.

i dont doubt its possible for a warrior to get a crit that high in the lvl 30-40 range, but i know for a fact that it had nothing to do with this axe. I guarantee that crit came off an execute with full rage, wich has nothing to do with weapon damage. I hit 1296 as a lvl 32 warrior (i.e. when u get Execute rank 2) but the best crit i got with this axe was 598 with a heroic strike. wich is still absolute wreckage at that level.

i got this at 31 and just abandoned my corpsemaker i mean omg this quest was impossible i spent nearly 11 gold on getting charms and liferoot then i had to have a 47 run me thru the trolls to get the tusks and he almost got killed trying to take out the whirling guy i cant believe this is a 30 wep for the trouble you have to go thru but in the end it is soooo worth it-and btw thank you tau for helping me get this-i <3 WW axe(but not as much as corpsemaker).

when i got this quest i was very excited, but once i found out what mats i needed to farm, i just wanted to give up. I had my lvl 55 priest and mage to help me farm for the charms, i bought 8 liferoots for like 30s in the AH and the bloodscalped tusks took me like 10 min, my friends AoE them. if you are stuck finding the mats for the quest, i'll tell u exactly where to find em.

Liferoot- either buy them or if ur a herbalist, pick them
Bloodscalped Tusks- u will find em in mostly almost all ruins in STV. they range fro 33-39 so get some help if your a lower lvl.
Cresting. Burning, Thundering Charms- they are n the arathi highlands but they are in the area near refuge point. they are lvl 38-39 and they dont always drop the charms.

in the end, the farming for mats are rly worth it bcuz the Whirlwind Axe, Whirlwind Sword, or Whirlwind Warhammer are 3 amazing weapons for warriors for the recommended lvls.

at the end of the farming you have to kill Cyclonian and hes a lvl 40 elite, so get somone to help whos around 50+, after this, u walk away with ur weapon of ur choice.

I recommend u get either crusader or fiery enchant bcuz on my whirlwind axe, i got the crusader and i get high ass crits!

(btw: all of the weapons are the same dmg and buffs, but the whirlwind axe is the nicest out of all)

Actually, i think getting the WW weapons is total waste of time. I'd prefer
2x Stalvan's Reaper
Faucheuse de Stalvan got the WW axe on 32. Then i saw these stalvans for only 10g each on ah, so i tested them instead. deals lot more damage with those weps.

So, i prefer to use 20g the dual wield stalvan's reaper, than wasting 3 hours game time to get a weapon that deals less damage.

Currently level 37 gnome warrior.

Which one of the 3 are better cuz the mace has the extra dps and the stun chance...the sword can get extra hits. And I've heard the axe has increased crit %. The sword extra hit chance comes with which Talent Tree and is the mace stun chance a spec? Cuz i know the rogue can get a mace spec which stuns using mace...please explain.

This weapon is good, however the sword can be much better. Depending on your build the sword can be vastly superior to the mace & axe due to its faster swing. Sure it's base dps is a little lower, however it is alot faster & speed=rage=extra damage. And this weapon is so easily recognizable others will see it & know to stay clear

My opinion is that the whirlwind axe is best suited for an Arms warrior like me. the axe has high damage, and really high crits, and around lvl 30-35 you get to a point in the arms tree that there are weapon specs. if you have the poleaxe specialization with max points, you have +5% chance to crit with polearms and axes. and if you max cruelty in the fury tree you have +10% crit chance for polearms and axes. my crit chance is around 14%, 14.1%, at 36, i have 1 or 2 items with agility enchants but mostly strength and stamina equips and enchants, with 1 point in poleaxe spec- because my first 5 points were put into cruelty. lastly, another thing about the crit hits... they are very high lol. at 32 i was duo-ing VC and i crit 731 HS on Rhak'zor (unsure how to spell his name). well.. thats my spec and opinion , and not sure of the benefits of the 5% to get another hit with sword, or 5% chance to stun with a mace.

I got this axe at lvl 30, and still have at lvl 41. I was curious as to what most ppl here moved onto after this beautiful weapon. I myself am going to grind Udla and hope stoneslayer drops (i.e. 200 top end damage), and i currently have the Warmonger in my bank for lvl 47. But i just wanted to know what everyone used after WWaxe, cuz i feel like its time to move on. Oh and please no one suggest the ravager, i dont feel like giving someone 9 secs to get out of melee range and bandage while i'm stuck by my own doing or breaking debuffs as off-tank.

I got this axe at lvl 32 w/ help from a 60 friend of mine. Couldn't have completed quest otherwise, expecially when facing lvl 40 Elite Cyclonian. TOTALLY worth the effort.. this axe is a BEAST. I've crit for 1025 w/ Execute and 765 w/ Heroic Strike. I'll be keeping this for a while :P

Ok lots of you are wrong on this one. Bonebiter quest is level 34. This is 30. My human warrior got the whirlwind sword at 30. Then he got bonebiter at 34. This quest isn't pointless, but it only lasts you 4 levels if you want bonebiter. I'm still using bonebiter now (level 42), but when I hit 44 I get Kang the Decapitator

Got the axe yesterday for my 32 warrior.Was a real pain to get,but it's reeeaaaallly imba for my level.

Haven't gotten around to use it much,but I hit about 160-210.I managed to crit 360 normal and 430 with heroic strike,but I used it on one of those turtles in BFD that have tons of armour,so I doubt that's my max.

I got the axe of course. From what I heard sword spec no long procs off procs or instant attacks. People also try to say that sword spec is awesome cause an extra hit is like a crit, but the extra hit can also crit. Well when you proc either sword or axe spec your hit has gone through, the difference is that with axe your crit proc/chance off the talent is a sure thing (it's not going to miss when it turns your striking hit into critical), but if you proc an extra hit from sword spec it can still miss/dodge/block/parry. Also certain attacks crit for a ton more damage than simply having an extra melee swing (MS and Execute).

It kind of also depends on your set up too and what you're fighting against, cause if you have a lot of base crit sword spec might be your thing, but at the levels you get this weapon you don't have a lot of crit chance.

The weapon is suprisingly easy to get at level 30 if you ask people around the zones to help you do the parts, even if you don't have a guild or friends who play with you. It's pretty amusing too to have at level 30. ;)

I got the bloodrazor one day off a dog that aggroed me and that will let me do a nice shield at level 45.

Take Axe is the best of these rewards. but if you are fury warrior dont do this quest just get the Scarlet Monastery quest where you can get Sword of Omen/Sword of Serenity and Vanguisher sword whit it gl good playing time and get a life

Doable at level 30, if you have friends that can help you purchase the talismans and with the tusks. Tusks require at least level 35 to complete without any problems on your own.

Been using this till lvl 51. I know... but hey, it's a really good axe. A fellow guild 50+ warrior helped me with the quest.
Was owning battleground, did thousands of crits to mobs...had such a great time. This is one of those items that I will never vendor. Selling it for 1g is not worth it. Memories are priceless.
Upgraded to Colossal Great Axe of the Tiger.
