The Lightforged Draenei are a new
in Battle for Azeroth that has been datamined on the 7.3.5 PTR. We also datamined some
with the 7.3.5 PTR build that provides a good look at the Lightforged Draenei quest chain and how they joined the Alliance, as well as a potential quest involving the ghostly child
Please note that this is based on datamined broadcast text and may be subject to change -- playing through the content on the PTR, when its available, will add much more context to these quotes.
The Lightforged Draenei quests specifically seemed even more incomplete than the rest.
We have tried to group dialogue clusters correctly, but the Lightforged Draenei-related text was more incomplete than the rest. We have also made a similar post on the

Lightforged Draenei Challenge
In this questline, you will follow the initiate T'paartos, who has many humorous and distinctive voice-over lines, on his final trial before becoming Lightforged. He also has a Hodor reference!
Stormwind Embassy Dialogue
The quest chain starts off at the
, where King Anduin Wrynn is meeting with the other faction leaders to discuss possible new recruits to the Alliance. Anduin leaves the choice between Void Elves and the Lightforged Draenei to the player.
Thank you for joining us, champion. These are dire times indeed.
We all know the Alliance incurred heavy losses in the war against the Legion. And even now, the world bleeds in the aftermath of Sargeras's final strike.
Meanwhile, the Horde musters its forces and arms for war. Their aggression must not go unanswered.
Our future depends on bringing other like-minded allies into the fold. I call upon those of you gathered here for your suggestions.
Victory on Argus was only possible because the heroes of Azeroth fought side-by-side with the Army of the Light.
Many of our bravest soldiers gave their lives for the cause. Those who remain would be proud to join the Alliance.
Among our number are brave initiates about to undertake the arduous path of becoming Lightforged.
Thank you, High Exarch. Lightforged soldiers would indeed bring strength to our numbers.
I am eager for the Lightforged to join the Alliance. Turalyon, bring our champion with you to the Vindicaar so that you may address your troops together.
It will be done, High King.
Observing the Challenge
Here you observe the initiatives passing their tests to become Lightforged. You are specifically observing T'paartos, who has quite the jovial personality and always refers to himself in the third person.
I did not expect you back so soon, High Exarch. I assume your meeting with the king went well?
Indeed. He is eager to have the Army of the Light fighting on the side of the Alliance. Assemble our forces, captain, and I will make the announcement.
Fareeya: You know how fond I am of your speeches, but can it wait? We were just about to send these initiates to undertake the trials.
Ah, this is excellent timing, champion. You can see firsthand what it means for a soldier to become Lightforged. Proceed, Fareeya.
T'paartos is a bit... unconventional. But he will serve our cause well.
Selecting a Partner
T'Paartos doesn't want a partner at first, and after coaxing, you are his partner!
T'Paartos... we have discussed this. Each initiate must be accompanied by a second. Where is yours?
T'Paartos needs no one to aid him!
The last initiate who attempted the trial alone came back in pieces. Choose a second, or head back to the barracks.
So be it! T'Paartos shall bring... this puny one!
An unorthodox choice, but... technically within the rules. I have never known $p to back down from a challenge.
Let the trial begin. Light be with you both.
The Final Trial
Much of the datamined dialogue seems to refer to T'paartos reacting to various things in the trial, including an alternate-reality version of him tempted by darkness, and sad memories from his childhood.
Currently there is a World Map called "Lightforged Draenei Swamp." It appears to look like the Zorammarsh area of Warlords
Jungle de Tanaan
. Since the scenario has an AU character taunting T'paartos, we're not sure if the Warlords location is meant to further the alternate-reality feel of the scenario. He does talk about finding bunnies in Val’sharah so it does not seem like we are literally going to Tanaan Jungle.
Banter at the start
T'paartos greets puny one.
Puny one needs something of T'paartos?
Danger? T'paartos scoffs at danger!
Pain is the architect of memories.
There is no kindness here.
Anguish and hurt... the search for solace.
Even amidst hopelessness, there is respite.
Is there no comfort? No relief?
Retreat deeper... find safety... find comfort...
Distraction provides escape.
Unfair! Unjust! Nothing is ever what it seems!
Enemies lurk within every shadow. Can this darkness be stopped?
Is solitude the answer? No one can hurt you if you remain alone.
Safe. Secure. Away from everyone. Everything.
Fear is relentless. Unyielding. A foe to be defeated.
Perhaps to overcome fear of the darkness, one must embrace it.
An offer refuted... and yet the fear remains.
Within one soul exist many truths. Some noble. Others...
Does the path lead to greatness? Glory? Or obliteration?
This T'paartos is pledged to the Light, yet... treats with the darkness? This cannot be T'paartos' fate!
Was T'paartos meant to walk this path? Is T'paartos worthy to become Lightforged?
Such power awaits us, T'paartos.
The Light is not the way to true strength.
Shrug off the chains the Light has used to bind you.
Yes... give in, T'paartos. Embrace true power!
No... this is not real. This cannot be the true T'paartos!
The Light has always been with T'paartos! He will NEVER abandon the Light!
At one point T'paartos has nerves in combat and appreciates your help:
This is... slightly embarrassing for T'paartos.
T'paartos has faced many such fiends in the Army of the Light.
T'paartos can lift mountains!
T'paartos does not know fear!
T'paartos regrets calling $p puny.
The fear... it followed T'paartos everywhere!
He remembers some scary memories as a child:
When T'paartos was scared, he found a place to hide.
T'paartos loved to dig and find things.
T'paartos remembers a place like this one. A time he dug too deep.
T'paartos ran and ran. Got lost for days.
Even shadows looked like monsters to T'paartos.
Finally, T'paartos decided to stop being so afraid of dark and left cave.
This place reminds T'paartos of another time he went where he wasn't supposed to.
Not all flowers were just flowers.
But moving flowers not always bad! They just want to eat bugs.
T'paartos remembers a place like this...
T'paartos was lost for days.
Come. T'paartos thinks he knows what little T'paartos might do.
We also learn that he loves animals, but hates snakes:
Ahh, Ika. T'paartos raised this elekk when its mother was killed.
T'paartos loved to talk to animals. They listened and liked him.
T'paartos made friends with critters. Frogs, elekk, bugs... but not snakes. Never snakes!
Ugh! Can $p make the snakes go away?
We get several flashbacks, showing T'paartos sharing his love for animals with children, as well as being bullied.
T'paartos showed us how to play boulder, parchment, blade, but I forgot the rules.
Haha! T'paartos is glad to see you are well! T'paartos also brought a present, he found this little one in Val'shara.
Can I keep it?
The tail is so fluffy!
T'paartos must return this little one now. Say farewell children.
No! Stay and tell us adventure stories T'paartos!
Do not worry, T'paartos will return with more stories and perhaps another friend.
Other children were... not always kind to T'paartos.
How'd a runt like you get so FAT, T'paartos?
Fatty probably doesn't understand the question 'cause he's so STUPID!
Aww, the fat runt is crying!
Hahahaha! What a BABY!
Should we go after him?
Nah. Let tubby go play with his frogs.
He thanks you for being by his side:
You should know something, friend $r. T'paartos did not choose $n because of your puniness.
T'paartos saw $n's heart on the field of battle. You are the bravest $c T'paartos has ever seen.
Dialogue if you wipe/fail the trial:
Again, T'paartos? How many times does this make...
Not enough times to stop T'paartos!
T'paartos offers gratitude Lysara. T'paartos can feel he is ready to fight again!
Even the finest weapon will dull with too much use. Take some time to fully heal, T'paartos.
Upon successfully completing the trial:
T'paartos... You confronted your fears... your failings... and have been reborn.
We all have darkness inside us. It is no easy thing to face.
T'paartos realizes this now.
General Dialogue after trial completion:
T'paartos is proud to be Lightforged!
T'paartos is still slightly afraid of snakes.
Puny one is not trying to take advantage of T'paartos' good nature... are you?
Sure, T'paartos has read books. Books with few words and many pictures... but they still count.
List of things T'paartos does not like: snakes, mean children, snakes, dark caves, snakes... and puny ones who pester T'paartos.
They appear to have all fallen for my act! I find it extraordinary that they believe I could be so simple-minded as to... Wait, you mean they can hear me? I, uh... T'paartos!
Two pairs of toes. Two pairs o' toes. T'pairs o'toes. T'pair o'toes. T'paar o'toes. T'paartoes. T'paartos. T'paartos!
Pledge to the Alliance
Champion, it is time for us to return to Stormwind. Fareeya, spread the word. The Lightforged now fight for the Alliance.
Welcome, friend $p. I am King Anduin Wrynn. As a new member of the Alliance, I wished to greet you personally.
The Lightforged may be a recent addition to our ranks, but I know the draenei well. I am confident you will embody the dedication and courage of the Army of the Light.
High King Wrynn. The Army of the Light is pledged to defend the Alliance.
The strength of the Lightforged is most welcome in our ranks, High Exarch.
I have fought beside these draenei in the Twisting Nether for a thousand years. You will find no soldiers who are more skilled, or more loyal.
Both these qualities will be needed in the days to come. And thank you for your part in bringing them to our cause, $p.
For thousands of years, the Lightforged fought demons in the Twisting Nether. The Xenedar was the only home we knew.
Now, for the first time in ages, we can walk beneath a sky not befouled by the Legion's madness... and feel the earth under our hooves again.
But we must not grow complacent. One war ends, the next begins. Such is the life of a soldier.
Your duty begins in Stormwind. Explore this world of Azeroth. Get to know the people and places we have sworn to defend.
Your service to the Alliance has been most impressive, $p. I could not have done better myself. Well, I could... but not by much.
Come, meet with me at the Vindicaar. It is time that we reward your diligence.
Throughout your journeys, you have been a beacon of Light in the darkness. You have shown the Alliance what it means to be Lightforged.
Wear these vestments with pride, $p. The Army of the Light will always be honored to count you in its ranks.
It looks like our friend
has a future outside of challenges in Mac'Aree. He appears to be on the Vindicaar now, and answers several player questions. A few have been added, but not all:
Hello, Vigilant Quoram. We met before on Argus.
What do you know about becoming Lightforged?
Do you plan on staying with the draenei?
How do you like being on the Vindicaar?
Can you teleport me back up to the bridge?
I suppose you are wondering what I am doing here.
Suffice it to say that I have been given a new prime directive. Apparently standing watch over the Conservatory was not an efficient use of my time.<Sigh> Tenure no longer means what it once did.
Do you require something? As you can see, I am quite busy.
More to the Story?
The Lightforged Draenei story arc seems unfinished or too predictable compared to the other Allied Races. The Draenei are already on good terms with the Alliance and no twists are revealed.
T'paartos sounds quite jovial, and we think this could be used to emotional effect if juxtaposed with sad images during the Trial. We get a sense of this when he goes from talking about his love for animals to being bullied and hiding from children. Simply reading the text though, it's hard to get a full sense of the emotional impact of the scenario.
We also found datamined broadcast text that seems
emotional - a quest related to the battle pet
Possible Uuna Lightforged Quest?
is a battle pet with a sad description - "One of the many children thought lost in the battle for Argus, only to find themselves infused into an Ur'zul." This pet is a drop from the terrifying
Le Dévoreur aux cent visages
. It's kin, the
, is described as "Formed from the tormented bodies and souls of fallen members of the Army of the Light, the Ur'zul is both fascinating and horrifying."
So poor Uuna is a murdered Lightforged Draenei child, whose soul was captured in a demon.
Based on the 7.3.5 dialogue, there is a challenge to find Uuna. We're not sure if this is just limited to Lightforged Draenei or not, but currently the text offers a reminder to players of the horrors the Draenei have faced--it's not just about acing trials.
Muffinus has confirmed on Twitter that something is happening to Uuna:
Uuna, have you seen her?
"I have heard the cries of the child you speak of.
I shall mark you, that you may pass into this realm and seek her out.
She resides in a place where the barrier between the realms of life and death are thin, and spill over into your world.
Be warned, you have no power in this place, it's denizens cannot be harmed by mortals.
Try as you might, you may not be able to aid your friend.
Mama? Mama! Why is it so dark? It's scary here...
Can anybody hear me?
Hello? Who's there? I heard you!
Ack! A monster!
Are you sad too? Are you lost like me?
Who are you? Can you help me?
At least we're together now. We just... don't know where we are.
But you're my friend, and I know it's gonna be okay.
I wish I could see better. It's always so dark here!
It's too bright! Too bright! Owww!
Oh, hi! Who are you? I'm Uuna. Wanna be friends? Maybe together we can get outta this place.
I wish Nuu were here. He'd know what to do.
Friend? Is that you?
I won't give up, friend! I promise!
I'm just so cold, and it's very dark here. I don't know what to do!
Friend? Are you still there? I'm scared!
I--I can't do it! I just wanna go home!
Uuna wraps her arms around herself and begins to cry.
What's that? A light in the darkness! It's so bright...
It's gotten a little brighter! I can see... sorta.
Nuu-Nuu! I was scared I'd never see you again! How did you get here?
It's dark again! Where did you go? Don't leave me!
No! Let me go! Help, friend! HELP!
Nuu is here to help us, friend. I knew you'd find us, Nuu!
I'll hold onto him so he doesn't get lost again.
There you are! That's much better.
They're gonna be here, soon, friend.
I keep running and running... but they always find me.
But now you're here. Together we can fight them! I think...
Promise you won't leave me, friend. Even when it gets dark...
F-friend, you're here! You didn't leave me!
Mama told me the Light would always find me. That's you, friend. You're my light!
And as long as my light is with me, there's no way the darkness can win!
My light is super strong!
I'M NOT GONNA BE AFRAID ANYMORE!
Uuna appears to get out of her limbo, and is ready to go to the "Light." She goes on a tour of Azeroth, including the wall in Pandaria, the flying city of Dalaran, and the Draenei culture alive and well. We are not sure if the two lines at the end refer to her cruelly being pulled back into the darkness, or alternate dialogue in case you fail at protecting her at any point.
The darkness is gone! I can see!
Oh, friend! We did it! We beat them!
What... what's happening?
The light... it's telling me to follow it...
Mama! Papa! They're waiting for me!
Wait a sec...
There's so much I never got to do. So many places I never got to see...
Is it okay if I stay with my friend? For just a little while longer?
Friend! The Light says I can stay! Woo-hoo!
Tell Mama and Papa I miss them, and... and I'll see them soon!
Okay, friend, let's get outta here! We have so many places to go!
Uuna hugs you.
Wow! That's the biggest wall I've ever seen!
What do you suppose they wanted to keep out?
Is it bugs? I bet it's bugs. Yuck! I hate bugs!
Wow! That's gotta be the prettiest house ever!
Do you know who lives here? I bet it's a princess.
Do you wanna play princesses with me?
Whoa... a flying city! Are you serious?!
How does it do that?
Do you live here?
Come to think of it... do you live ANYwhere?
Hey, what are those flying things? They're so pretty!
That's a big tower. It's like a... giant birdhouse!
But for lizard birds.
Can I have one for a pet?
Friend, look! We're under a giant tree!
I wonder how many birds live in that tree. Must be so many!
Like... TEN birds!
Caw caw caw caw caw!
I can see everything from here!
I didn't know mountains could go this high!
Don't fall off, friend! I'll be okay if I fall, but you'd go SPLAT!
So be careful, okay?
Where are we? Why is it so smoky?
Look down there. It's all glowing!
But it's moving like water... it's a glowing lake?
That's really silly, friend.
It's... so beautiful...
My people are here! They survived!
They didn't all die on Argus?
Thank you SO MUCH for showing me this, friend!
You've shown me so many neat things. You really are the best friend ever!
I know someday I'll have to go back to Mama and Papa.
But... not yet.
Gaaahhh! No! Help!
Uuna is swallowed by darkness.
