This guide tracks the major changes and additions to Fishing in Mists of Pandaria. There's new fish, a fishing-centric reputation, battle pets to fish up, and more!
Pandaren Fishing
The skill level required to catch these new fish without junk in most zones is 625. You can fish in these areas with lower skill, but you'll have a greater chance to catch junk. 625 is above the skill cap, but you can reach it with lures and other boosts.
If you don't want to take your weapons off to fish, you don't have to now. A default pole will show up if you have weapons equipped--good for PvP servers.
Ancien charme de pêche pandaren
is a rare item from a ghostly mob in Valley of the Four Winds that increases your fishing haul!
In 5.2, if your fishing skill is too low for an area, you will catch
Carpe dorée
instead of junk in Pandaria.
In addition, there are three quest-related fish:
Gourami tigre volant
,
Pieuvre caméléon
,
Poisson-hérisson alpha
. These can be turned in to get friendship with Nat Pagle (see below).

Fish of the Day Event
In Patch 5.2, players can go to a specific location each day where they can easily catch tons of fish as well as some other cool items.
There are nine possible locations that
Ben de la Voix tonitruante
by Halfhill can send you to.
Each location has unique pools with special names that rapidly respawn and allow you to catch a certain Pandaren fish easily. Each location corresponds to a different type of fish.
Finally, for flavor, there are many Angler NPCs milling about, including
El la Salée
! Specific fishing areas may have additional neat details, such as sprite darters casting arcane bolts at the Jade Lungfish site, or baby Reef Octopi jumping around the Reef Octopus site.
In addition, there is one "large" pool that will summon an
Krakkanon
, similar to
Le Rôdeur d'En bas
. He drops 20 of the area's fish, as well as a chance to drop
Journal de pêche de Nat
and fish for
Nat Pagle
. He has nearly 20 million HP and casts
Gurrggggle
and
Shpshhh
.
In Patch 5.4, the fish of the day event for
Danio joyau
has been moved to the
Île du Temps figé
.
Locations
Woods of the Lost,
La forêt de Jade
:
Dipneuste de jade
. Special pools are called
Glowing Jade Lungfish
because Sprite Dragons shoot arcane bolts at them.
Fields of Niuzao,
Steppes de Tanglong
:
Mandarin ventre-rouge
. Special pools are called
Crowded Redbelly Mandarin
which makes sense due to the tiny pond they spawn in.
Stormstout Brewery,
Vallée des Quatre vents
:
Saumon empereur
. Special pools are called
Brew-Frenzied Emperor Salmon
, which makes sense based on their proximity to the brewery.
Krasari Falls,
Étendues sauvages de Krasarang
:
Poisson-spatule de Krasarang
. Special pools are called
Swarm of Panicked Paddlefish
, most likely due to the Goblin NPC throwing dynamite at them.
Mad Qao Pao,
Val de l’Éternel printemps
:
Danio joyau
. Special pools are called
Glimmering Jewel Danio Pool
, since Mad Qao Pao, a very blingy Pandaren, periodically makes wishes and throws coins into the pool. This is removed in Patch 5.4.
Binan Village Coast,
Sommet de Kun-Lai
:
Gourami tigre
. Special pools are called
Sha-Touched Spinefish
and the water has an oily appearance.
Sri-La Village,
La forêt de Jade
:
Poulpe des récifs
. Special pools are called
Reef Octopus Swarm
and baby octopus run around the docks.
Gokk'lok Shallows,
Terres de l’Angoisse
:
Crevette-mante géante
. Special pools are called
Tangled Mantid Shrimp Cluster
, as "Stuffed shrimp" sharks and seagulls periodically eat them.
Master Snowdrift's Pagoda,
Sommet de Kun-Lai
:
Gourami tigre
. Special pools are called
Tiger Gourami Slush
, and nearby trainees cast blue bolts at them.
Angler NPCs
Unusual fishing activity naturally make the Anglers curious. Based on the location, special Angler NPCs will come out to fish:
By Krasari Falls, you will find a goblin NPC on a raft throwing dynamite at the fish. No other Angler NPCs were present.
In Vale of Eternal Blossoms,
Qao Pao le Fol
wears
Tenue de fête du solstice
with
Couronne du destin investi
.
The other fishing areas seem more sociable. Here's some of the Anglers you'll find at Stormstout, Niuzao, and the Woodlands, wearing a fun variety of old Tier sets with sandals and fishing hats:
Pêcheur Johnny Rotten
: an Undead wearing
Rogue Tier 2
and using a
Canne à pêche en os
.
Pêcheur In Bo Den
: a Pandaren wearing
Shaman Tier 6
.
El la Salée
: El from
Els' Extreme Anglin' fame
, wearing her usual
Salopette bleue
and
Chapeau de pêche déformé
.
Brother Shallowpond, a grummle, and his pet yak, Fishbreath.
Pêcheur Osek
: a Troll wearing
Druid Tier 6
, using
Canne à pêche pandarène
.
Pêcheur Corbeau
: an Undead wearing
Mage Tier 3
, using a
Canne à pêche pandarène
.
Pêcheuse Scottie
: a Dwarf wearing
Priest Tier 8
, using a
Canne à pêche du dragon
.
Pêcheuse Lin Patte-de-Neige
: a night elf wearing
Druid Tier 3
, using a
Canne à pêche pandarène
. Has a white kitten, Lulu.
Vieux loup de mer Sullivan
: a Dwarf wearing
Hunter Tier 2
, using a
Canne à pêche du dragon
. Has a worg pup, Shelby.
Pêcheuse Jo Ransom
: a Blood Elf with the
AQ Paladin set
, using a
Canne à pêche ornée de joyaux
.
The Anglers
Hameçonneurs
are a new faction in Mists of Pandaria dedicated to fishing. They sell useful fishing items, as well as offer quests that increase your fishing.
Angler Rewards and Nat Pagle
Nat Pagle
, fisherman extraordinaire of Azeroth, is now the Angler Quartermaster. Like many other faction-related NPCs, he comes with his own personal friendliness meter:
Nat Pagle
. There are several things you can get by raising your "friendship" with him:
Chapeau de Nat
as his Best Friend, and
Journal de pêche de Nat
. You can use 12 of these books to level to 600 Fishing on an alt, but they cost each.
He is located at the Angler's Wharf, sitting in a fishing chair. He trains both
Maître pêcheur zen
and has reputation rewards players can purchase.

Angler Settlements
The Anglers are found in two locations: an island in Southern Krasarang Wilds and Sri-La Village, located off the eastern coast of The Jade Forest.
Sri-La Village
This series of islands doesn't have quests implemented yet, but there are many families of Pandaren anglers. Nearby scenery includes sunken ships, sharks, air pockets in the water, and flying cloud serpents, perhaps tied to
L’ordre du Serpent-nuage
.
Amenities include:
A flightmaster:
Gingo Lie de Bière
An inn and innkeeper:
Lana la Brise marine
Food vendors:
Bry Lang
,
Mor Pince
,
Waiyu le Souriant
Fishing supply vendors:
Tremp Ofon
Flower vendor:
Mme Lang
Brew vendor:
Mili Bière Bohème
The Anglers are also quite chatty, with many quotes:
Fisherwomen quotes:
"Fish here long enough and you will see everything. I once saw a walrus with legs and arms. Not only that, but it talked!"
"What are the seas like where you come from?"
"New here? It is like we tell the children, do not go into the water without a handful of distracting bait and an exit strategy."
"You probably have seen the ships crashed off our shores. Would any of those happen to be yours? The mists often bring us a number of 'gifts' like that."
"I knew a monk once who specialized in a fish-fighting style. It was pretty limiting but he could make an amazing fish stew."
"I often wonder about the jinyu here. But they know how to fish and better than the rest of us so who am I to judge."
"One of the children swears up and down they saw a cross between a shark and an octopus the other day. I know there are a lot of strange things in the ocean but that seems extra silly to me."
"Did the Serpent Riders send you? Their serpents keep stealing our best catches." (Serpent Riders fly overhead nearby.)
Fishermen quotes:
"Ever see a kracken before? Old Jin claims to have caught one, once upon a time, but let it go on account of it looked too 'gamey.' We have a betting pool going to see if he ever finds it again."
"You a fisher? With them flabby arms and that heavy armor?"
"Welcome to the coast of Pandaria! Where everything that can wash ashore has, or will, wash ashore."
"What kind of bait you use? I knew a panadaren once, would use his own arm to bait fish. We called him the Noodler. Rumor has it he's retired and went south." (References
Cranpoil le Faiseur de nouilles
in Marista, Krasarang Wilds who talks about fishing.)
"So, what are the fish like where you come from?"
"Usually these shores are covered in mists. It looks like they cleared out for some reason."
"I once saw a fish so big you'd swear it was a shark. Come to think of it..."
Angler's Wharf
Nat Pagle
is now the Anglers Quartermaster and is sitting on a boat with a
Siège de pêche
.
Jiang Ziya
sells fishing supplies.
Many generations of Pandaren fishermen are present, as well as fishermen of all races from around the world:
Pêcheur Shen
, a Pandaren
Vénérable pêcheur Rassan
, a Jinyu
Pêcheur Haito
, a Pandaren
Fiznix
, a Goblin with a
Canne à pêche ornée de joyaux
Fo Fouk
, a Hozen
John « Gros hameçon » Marsock
, a Human: Interested in catching a shark?
Chalutier Yotimo
, a Tuskarr:
Call me crazy, but I love this warm weather! I always felt like an outcast back in Borean but I think this new climate is going to work out great for me!
Well, times were getting tough up north. While the scourge problem has been dealt with, we are constantly on the move and looking for food. I decided it was time to head out and find some new fishing grounds!
After almost a week at sea, I ended up here. Good thing I packed a few crates of pickled herring for the trip!
Darkmoon Faire
In Patch 5.2, a new fishing hat was added to the Darkmoon Faire:
Coiffe de pêche de Sombrelune
.
This hat has a very very low chance to be caught around the Darkmoon Faire--so you can only try for it one week out of every month.
It gives +5 fishing skill, and during the Faire, can summon Shipwrecked Debris.
In addition, the Darkmoon Faire has dynamic fishing loot--your catches change based on what skill you are.
