Soul Ash, the currency to craft Shadowlands Legendaries, was added to Torghast in this Beta build and we've learned how the Currency drops in Torghast. We go over the Torghast core gameplay loop that you'll be looking to complete every week, detailing how much Soul Ash currently drops, allowing us to speculate how often you'll get a Legendary in Shadowlands!

Disclaimers
The information in this article is taken from the Shadowlands Beta and is subject to change at any point.
The Torghast Layer UI which explains how
Cendre d’âme
drops indicates a system that is very similar to what has been mentioned in multiple developer interviews and is likely closer to something final.
The amount of
Cendre d’âme
that drops per level, and the amount needed to craft a Legendary
are not final

How Torghast Works
Torghast Wings
Torghast, Tower of the Damned has 6 total wings, containing different environments, enemies and bosses for you to kill. Another option is the Twisting Corridors, which contains environments from all the other wings, but the Twisting Corridors is for cosmetic rewards only.
Of the 6 wings of Torghast, only 2 will be active at a time, rotating every week. Completing floors in these 2 active wings is how you will earn
Cendre d’âme
.
Torghast Layers
Each wing of Torghast is broken up into multiple Layers, ranging from Layer 1 to Layer 8. Each Layer contains a set of 6 floors -- Layer 1 contains Floors 1 through 6, Layer 2 contains Floors 7 through 12 and so on. In the non-Twisting Corridors, completing a Layer will end your run but award you with
Cendre d’âme
.
Once you complete a Layer, you can talk to the Wayfinder at the start of a new run to teleport directly to another Layer. The higher the Layer and Floor Number, the harder the enemies get.
Obtaining Soul Ash - Weekly Gameplay Loop
As mentioned above, completing a Layer in one of the 6 wings will award you with some
Cendre d’âme
.
The table below shows how much
Cendre d’âme
you get from completing a Layer
currently on the Shadowlands Beta
and is subject to change. Thanks to

Cendre d’âme
will be awarded for completing a specific Layer
once per week per Wing
and completing higher floors will automatically award you with any
Cendre d’âme
from lower Layers. As there's two wings active every week, you're able to do both and get double the
Cendre d’âme
. However, any Soul Ash not collected from a Layer will essentially be lost with the Weekly Reset.
If during the first week, you complete Layers 1, 2, and 3, unlocking them as you go, you'd earn 15, 10, and 5
Cendre d’âme
in order for a total of 30.
During the second week, you would be able to skip directly to Layer 3 (as you've already unlocked it) and completing Layer 3 will automatically award you will 30
Cendre d’âme
without having to do the lower Layers.
The Wayfinder UI shows you what Levels you have unlocked, but also shows which Layers you've already gotten the rewards from this week. It even shows how much
Cendre d’âme
you'll get for completing a certain Layer, updating for any low level Layers that you haven't collected your rewards from, as seen in the screenshot below.
Torghast Intro Questline
Torghast has to be unlocked during the first week of the new expansion, and this opening questline takes you through all 6 wings of Torghast on Layer 1. This does count as a Layer 1 completion for every single wing meaning you get 90
Cendre d’âme
the first week baseline and a Legendary only currently costs 100! This would mean that you only need to complete one Layer 2 and you can craft a Legendary the first week!, However, we're not sure if this is intended.
Conclusion & Summary
During the first week, it'll take a lot longer to collect your weekly amounts of
Cendre d’âme
as you have to completely unlock each new Layer. However, future weeks will become much quicker as you can skip to and complete the highest Layer possible to get all your Soul Ash for the week -- which will eventually become a quick weekly objective of completing Layer 8 in both Wings.
Enter Torghast -> Complete the Highest Layer that You Can -> Try to Push for Higher Layers -> Repeat for Second Wing -> Legendary Progression Done for Week
The majority of
Cendre d’âme
is front loaded into the Layers, as there are significant diminishing returns for pushing higher Layers. However, as any Soul Ash is essentially lost for not completing a Layer within a week, many players may find themselves pushing difficult Layers in order to get the most
Cendre d’âme
possible in the early weeks of the expansion despite the highest Layers only offering 3 or 4 Soul Ash for completion.
Currently, Legendaries take 100
Cendre d’âme
to craft a single Legendary on the Beta. If you complete Layer 8 in both the active Torghast wings, you'll get exactly 100
Cendre d’âme
, which would mean 1 crafted Legendary per week in current tuning. It seem unintended as
they've stated that a Legendary every 2-3 weeks is the goal
, but if the Layers scale hard enough, Layer 8 may not be possible until later in the tier when players have more gear -- allowing players to speed up their Legendary progression rate as the tier goes on.
