Tides Emissary Beguiling Tip #2: Z-Axis Stealth Hotfix

A few weeks ago, a stealth hotfix was added to remove the Emissary of the Tides' aura from affecting things along the Z-Axis. You're able to use this new stealth hotfix to your advantage if you pull an Emissary of the Tides and need to interrupt a mob.
Make sure to check out our
Beguiling Tip #1
, which goes over how to pull groups of enemies without aggroing Emissaries.
What is the Z-Axis?
The Z-Axis is the elevation in WoW. The Z-Axis is a very touchy subject in WoW as spells are very inconsistent whether or not they hit along the Z-Axis. Determining the Z-Axis is usually not relevant but for some abilities, it is important.
A common example is Ashvane's
Bulle saumâtre
. This doesn't hit players along the Z-Axis. If you get hit by an upsurge, you will only Bubble yourself and not anyone that remained on the ground, even if they are in your circle.
Tides Hotfix
Before the hotfix, both the Tides and Enchanted Emissaries had auras that had spheres of influence. In other words, their auras extended outwards from them in all directions, including along the z-axis. If you've done a Beguiling Tol Dagor, you've probably seen the Enchanted aura persisting through walls and poking through the floors and ceilings.
The hotfix that was applied to the Tides Emissary made it so that the Tides'
Décret de la reine : Imbattable
aura only extends in the horizontal direction and will no longer affect along the Z-Axis. This means that it will no longer affect other creatures that are above or below the Tides Emissary.
Why was this change made? Probably due to a really annoying Tides Emissary in Waycrest Manor that's placed right below the courtyard. This Tides Emissary had an aura that would actually extend into the Courtyard area and make mobs in this area CC immune. A common strategy is to pull trash in Raal's room out to the Courtyard, but unless you pull the trash much farther, it would be affected by the aura of a Tides Emissary you couldn't even see or kill!
You can see that this Maggot is affected by
Bulle saumâtre
, even though there's no Tides to be seen. This screenshot was taken before the hotfix.
Use This to Your Advantage
This can be used to your advantage in certain situations. If a Tides Emissary is at even the slightest change in elevation than the other mobs, the
Décret de la reine : Imbattable
Aura will not affect the rest of the pack. This can occur naturally on stairs or just random terrain. Even if you have a Tides in the pack, you may notice that interrupts and stuns are possible and that's due to the hotfix. I've noticed this happen naturally in Siege of Boralus, Underrot and Temple of Sethraliss, but it should be possible anywhere where you can find a slightly change in elevation, even if it's a small hill.
If you need to pull a Tides and you need to interrupt, see if there's a nearby hill, stairs or rock you can stand it on.
Here's two clips showing this in action on the same pack in two different ways. This pack in Temple of Sethraliss can be deadly on high keys if you're not able to kick the Dust Devil, so either pulling the pack without the Tides, or Z-Axis'ing it is important to be able to maintain interrupts on it.
