Welcome to the fourth edition of the WoW Economy Weekly Wrap-up!

My name is Gumdrops and I’m the lead moderator for the
and the accompanying
. I am also the Support Manager & User Evangelist for
, the Auction House addon suite for World of Warcraft. I hope to cover and showcase some of the interesting topics, discussions, content and guides that have been going on over the last week in the gold making community. Some that you might have missed as a veteran gold maker, or you might be interested in checking out for the first time as a new or aspiring ‘goblin’.
The format will not be that of a traditional guide, but links to further reading with commentary and opinions of my own. I will be looking at the bigger picture, the decision making and thought processes in being a gold maker – rather than a step by step instructional list. As the saying goes, “give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”.
Patch 7.3 is imminent, launching in the US on Tuesday August 29th and on EU realms the following day, but what are people doing to prepare? There's been a flurry of activity and discussions and speculation in the community on the subject so we'll take a look at some of the thoughts shared by gold-makers this week. The
7.3 patch overview here on wowhead.com
is a great starting point, and specifically the
in-depth profession changes catalouged earlier this month
is a hot topic, given that the new
requires an old one,
/u/agentosama suggests demand will increase
When ToS dropped, the max oblit ilvl increased from 875 to 900 (25 ilvl increase), and as we all saw, obliterum prices skyrocketed, with the average U.S. price doubling. Primal Obliterum will increase item level to 935, which is a 35 ilvl increase, 10 more than the previous change. For this reason, I feel that there will be high demand for Primal Obliterum early in the patch, and possibly an even higher spike than when 7.2.5 released (higher ilvl increase, higher demand spike). AFAIK, there are only 2 pieces of armor that can be upgraded to 935 w/ Primal Obliterum for each armor type, and a trinket. If this is the case, then each character is limited to 3 pieces upgrade able to 935 ilvl.
Looking at historical trends and prices around major changes is a great way to get an indication of what may happen in the future. We've already had changes to the maximum ilvl that Obliterum can work to, however since there is a limit in the number of items you can increase to 935 ilvl the dynamics of pricing trends may change slightly.
/u/Codosbuya analyses why the demand may not reach that of 7.2 however
Obliterum price raised a lot in 7.2 because of three reasons.
There is no cap on the number of crafted gear you can wear. Compared to WoD where the limit was 3, you could have a character fully equipped with crafted gear.
900 ilvl is more than what can you get with Nethershards, which is 880, and the same level as ToS normal. Also, you can craft a BiS piece This makes the items interesting as a secondary way to gear an alt or fill an slot that you dont have equipped from ToS HC yet.
7.3 crafted gear equipment goes into Tier slots (head, chest, pants, shoulders) and are very limited in armor type. While they reach 935 ilvl, which is more than Mythic ToS, those slots are already contested by Tier and BiS Legendaries. This detracts raiders to buy them, maybe to fill very niche slots from some classes.
A lot of people are holding on to their stock of Obilterum for the release of the patch ready to cash in on any price hikes.
Since there is going to be no flying on Argus,
/u/itsskitz postis that we'll see an increase in demand for the Sky Golem mount
which allows you to gather herb nodes without dismounting. The mount cannot be 'mass produced' given the major material
Source d'énergie personnelle de Jard
is a daily cooldown for Engineers and the mount requires 30 of them. Skitz expands upon this in his personal 7.3 preparation as a gold-maker video:
The new raid zone,
Antorus, the Burning Throne
go live with the launch of 7.3, so this gives goblins a great lead-in time to prepare for all the activity around a raid release. Consumables, enchants and gems will likely see a rise in price. I'm personally saving some 'old' Legion herbs, meat and fish to ensure I can keep things like
Somptueux festin de Suramar
stocked on the Auction House. Don't forget to use/buy your
En-cas de Nomi
to fish out those Rank 3 recipes from
! The new materials will also likely be in very high demand, if you don't already have a Herbalist or Miner it could pay of to level one in preparation for the demand in the first days of the patch,
as /u/rode1233 suggests
Since there is going to be no flying on Argus the herb and
price is for sure going to be VERY overpriced the first 1-3 days of the release. So if possible try to sell some out very early. I am sure that there will be a great early demand on all the gathering items, so it is hard to tell exactly which one(s) will pull ahead early. They are used to craft the new 935 trinket, which will be highly demanded early release, and requires quite a lot of herbs, therefore you might also want to take advantage of the early supply/demand. Good luck :)
Aside from new gold making methods, there are of course new ways to spend your gold in 7.3 - there are several new mounts that can be purchased from the Argus factions at various reputation levels. The most interesting of them all is of course the
Armée de la Lumière
. You'll be needing this reputation for some of the profession recipes anyway, so this mount is a nice bonus reward for goblins to show off your financial status since it costs a whopping . The other potentially expensive acquisition is the new Darkmoon Faire mount
Dirigeable de Sombrelune
, a rideable personal-blimp. This beauty costs 1,000
Bon(s) pour un prix de Sombrelune
, which can be obtained by
playing the games at the Darkmoon Faire
or by purchasing the
Sacoche de bons de la foire de Sombrelune
Black Market Auction House
, each fanny pack contains 400-500
Bon(s) pour un prix de Sombrelune
, with a starting bid of . Check them out in action below.
At the time of writing, Legion is currently on sale for a sizeable discount. A news post on the Mexican WoW site led to speculation that this would be rolled out to other regions, and sure enough an announcement was made that Legion will be discounted by 40% from August 23rd. You can purchase it through
, or via the
Battle.net Links. This sale lasts through September 5th, 11:59pm PDT.
This is a perfect time to expand and scale gold-making strategies, having access to a secondary account that you can log in to simultaneously along side your main account creates a lot of new opportunities.
/u/Eeyore_ explores in more detail
Recruit A Friend performs a few different roles in making a goblin more efficient. By using the RAF second account experience bonuses, you can quickly level up characters to max level.
Having max level characters is a powerful tool in enabling you to take advantage of things like world quests, old content lock outs, and more maxed crafters.
Tailors or Alchemists or Engineers means you can make
times as many
Sac en trame-sort
or Transmute Cooldowns like
Transmutation : ambre du roi
Transmutation : barre de pyrium
Multi-boxing applies a linear scalar to your loot.
If you have two miners, they can each hit the same node. Now you get twice as much ore from a node. Or twice as many herbs. If you have three...etc.
You can have one toon act as an AH sniper while you play on the other. You can make gold from the AH while you're crafting on another account or running a dungeon. Running a sniper account in the background (or on a second monitor), you can get an alert when a deal comes up. Alt + Tab and you can buy that up quick.
Check out the guide on using Recruit a Friend
with the following tips in mind when if you intend to RAF yourself:
Send the email from the in-game system to whatever email address you like - it can even be the one you logged in with
Use your existing Battle.net account when it's requested unless you have a reason to create a new one. This saves running two Battle.net clients as well as two instances of WoW.
Run both instances of WoW from the same Battle.net client by selecting them from the list separately.
Logging out of the new 'Starter Edition' account and then back in should trigger a discount to purchase the Battle Chest which contains all expansions up to and including Warlords of Draenor
You could potentially stop at this point and just create a level 1 character to sit at the Auction House and run
while you play your main account. However, purchasing Legion while it's discounted will give you a free level 100 character boost which you can use on your new account (this in turn also gives you access to create a level 55 Death Knight and a level 98 Demon Hunter).
minimum system requirements for WoW
are quite low, the game is notorious for being able to run on very old computers (or toasters and potatoes) - so it shouldn't be too taxing on your system to run multiple instances of WoW at a time however you might want to keep your main account running at high quality graphics settings while lowering the settings of your secondary account. A few months ago

We're driving back down to basics in this section, heading out and farming for materials.
has launched a new series/playlist where he will be recording the results of farming for materials from every expansion. Eventually it will be a reference resource for the entire community that tries and tests farms to find the most efficient way to obtain a particular material. It's not intended to show how much gold you could potentially make by farming particular items, but being able to quickly look up the most optimal method for acquiring an item will help in decisions as a gold-maker. The first episode covers some low-level herbs from Vanilla:
Check out and bookmark the full Herbalism playlist
which will include a 'Deep Dive' supplemental video for each episode that covers the testing methods and results analysis in further detail. New playlists will be generated for each profession over the coming weeks and months.
I wanted to expand a bit on some of the addons that Reckles used in the video above as they can make an incredible difference to the efficiency and enjoyment of farming.
The first addon is
which adapts your minimap in to a Head-up Display to show nearby herb or mining nodes. It even supports minimap addons such as SexyMap.
The second addon is
, an addon to collect and track herbs, mines, fishing pools, gas clouds, archaeology finds and treasures, and displays them on the world map and the mini map. You can import thousands upon thousands of tracked nodes/objects from crowd-sourced data with the
Not used in the video, but
takes the two previous addons and makes them very powerful, allowing you to draw lines on the worldmap linking nodes together into an efficient farming route from existing databases (i.e those imported to GatherMate2). The route will be shown (by default) on the minimap and zone map as well.
A slightly older video from
goes in to great detail on how to set up optimized routes for the particular item you've decided to farm:
Two weeks ago I took a look at some
profession shuffling with Leatherworking
- but there is a way to shuffle in Legion without having any professions and simply buying items from the Auction House.
crowd-sourced data from last week
a new spreadsheet has been created to provide specific insight as to what to purchase from the Auction House to obliterate and generate
Unfortunately the origin/creator of this spreadsheet is unknown
- the creator has been identified,
put this nifty spreadsheet tool together.
Create your own copy of your spreadsheet to enter your preferred Obliterum price.
Entering your personal average sell price for Obliterum, or the lowest buyout whichever you prefer, will then list the max purchase prices of various items that you can Obliterate based on the Obliterum Ash yield for each item.
goes in to detail on using the tool and shows some examples in his latest video:
Don't roll 'need' on BoEs with juicy looking prices while you're leveling an alt, it will bind it to your character and you won't be able to sell it! The
ethics of rolling for gear were discussed earlier this week.
Try not to ignore your realm Trade channel, you never know what kind of deal you can find.
