I'm sure many of you have purchased packs in the past and been disappointed to find that the super-rare items were indeed as super-rare as advertised. Well, unlike previous World of Warcraft TCG expansions, Cryptozoic's
War of the Elements
set contains a common quality loot item that is no longer a consumable (such as the
Biscuit pour familier à l'ancienne de papa Hummel
, though admittedly they were the best)! Instead, the common-quality loot item is now a
! So even if trading card games aren't your thing (but they should be, really) you can still have a good chance at obtaining another companion for your collection!

Not Going To BlizzCon? Get the Virtual Ticket or DTV Stream!
05/10/2010 à 15:02
Every year getting BlizzCon tickets proves to be a phenominal pain in the butt for the majority of Blizzard fans - no matter how much they streamline the purchasing process (which, I'll admit, was significantly better this year) the truth is that most fans won't get tickets. Some people can't justify the expense for the tickets or the travel - after all, other than the "experience" of actually being at BlizzCon, you aren't missing out on much considering there's always more than enough coverage of the events and panels, and thousands of pictures and YouTube videos of every waking second of the convention!
If that isn't enough, though, you can enjoy
from the comfort of your own home without the experience of red-eye flights or sharing a hotel room with 6 people (what was I thinking?) by ordering one of the two
BlizzCon live feeds
available this year! You'll even get the BlizzCon 2010-exclusive "Deathy" World of Warcraft pet (

) and StarCraft II in-game items!
If you aren't a DIRECTV subscriber, don't worry! Blizzard offers a

Midsummer Fire Festival
), it still provides an amusing distraction from the everyday grind - complete with pirate costumes and flagons of grog!

A Personal Aside
11/06/2010 à 15:06
This has nothing to do with WoW, MMOs, or Wowhead, but it's very important to me personally so I wanted to take a moment to talk about it with you.
Some of you remember my brother, William. He blogs here occasionally under the name
. He's also suffering from a chronic, debilitating, incurable illness called
Crohn's is an auto-immune disorder of the digestive tract. Basically what happens is that the antibodies in your digestive system go a little nuts, and they start attacking your body's own tissue. The results are abdominal pain, dietary restrictions, diarrhea/constipation, infections, and frequent surgery. William himself has been forced to have his intestines re-sectioned twice, at the age of 25.
Because of this, he and I are taking part in a fundraising walk this Sunday for the
Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America
. I mention this here because we are still looking for pledges and donations, and anything you can provide will help.
If you're interested in making a donation, the site is here:

Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Fundraiser for WoW Players
26/02/2010 à 22:00
About a week ago I got a letter that was very affecting. It almost got lost in the inbox shuffle, but fortunately I caught it only a few days late, because I found it really affecting.
It warms my heart to see gamers coming out to do something really good for society, and considering the way mainstream media only seems to notice when a gamer shoots up a school, it's more important than ever that we work together to get the word out.
Here's the message:
My name is a Maria, a SF Bay Area geek and a very avid gamer. From the age of 7 when my Dad got me into gaming and bought me an NES Action Set/Bundle, I’ve been hooked. Aside from the typical console gaming and having a day job, I am still very active playing PC games especially within World of Warcraft. I was recruited into the guild Conquest on Kilrogg (US) and have since then learned how to split group mobs and teleport through walls. :P
Anyway, the reason I’m writing is because I’m reaching out in hopes that you could help me promote a little fundraising for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. I’m running a triathlon this year whic
Ozzy Osbourne Rocks Blizzcon
11/08/2009 à 12:18
Hail, brothers and sisters! If you are reading this, you are either just curious about what's going on (which is fine), or you have the fiery blood of one who listens to rock and metal. Which is even better for this announcement, for you are about to receive a grand facemelt.
Remember the Tauren Chieftains? Also known as Level 60 Elite Tauren Chieftains and L70ETC? The guys that show up at Blizzcon every now and then and perform a WoW-themed rock song like
I am Murloc!
? Well, if you liked them, chances you are going to like this - Ozzy Osbourne, the Prince of Darkness, one who
challenged the Lich King
himself for that title... This very man is going to perform live on Blizzcon 2009! Links below, full announcement - after the break, as usual.
Blizzard Official Announcement

A little while ago, as some of you may know, I was at
San Francisco (Game Developers Conference), and while there, I learned a lot about gamer culture.
Now, E3 is and always has been a press event—an event where game companies get to show off the new cool stuff that they're doing to the public and to each other. GDC, though, is an industry event—where it's mostly about meeting other people in the industry, awarding innovation in games, and the new middleware type stuff that's out there. Being someone who works in the game industry, and only a short drive away from San Francisco, I just had to be there.
WotLK Launch Party Picture Gallery!
14/11/2008 à 04:30
So the traffic coming back from Anaheim was a little more difficult than I'd hoped, meaning I didn't get home to post these until late. The pictures are here, though, so I hope you enjoy them in all of their low-resolution, poorly lit glory.
Be sure and take a look at
Allakhazam's Image Gallery
You can find 25 pictures of the event after the break.
WotLK Launch Event in Anaheim
13/11/2008 à 15:00
This is just a short one, since I don't want to spam you with blog posts too early. I did want you guys to know, though, that our sister site Allakhazam has posted some great coverage of the
WotLK Launch Event
at the Fry's Electronics in Anaheim. Tamat from Allakhazam and I got the chance to wander around and meet some of the people attending, and Tamat managed to score an interview with Jeff Kaplan, which will be posted on their news site on Friday. We got to meet a huge number of Blizzard employees (183 in all!), as well as some staffers from
, who deserve a link just for being cool.
A host of stories and interviews will be posted on the Allakhazam site over the coming days, including an exclusive interview with Jeff Kaplan, as well as interviews with some of the denizens of the line--including John Finch (the guy who camped out at the front of the line and told everyone who arrived after him that they were in line for Hello Kitty Online Adventure), and Eugene Gray (who checked out of a hospital, against doctor's orders, to stand in line).
I also have some pictures to post, which I'll try a
