While the highest drop rate for Motes is still on the Elemental Plateau, the 2.0.7 patch nerfed the respawn rate on these mobs. Pre-patch there used to be at least one elemental active at all times. Each time you killed one, another one spawned at any of the 20'ish spawn locations. You could easily have 4 or 5 people farming there at once, and not have much downtime. Post-patch, the last mob killed doesn't auto-spawn a new one. This results in substantial downtime with multiple players camping the area. One player alone can farm almost continuously, but 3 or 4 players make grinding here very difficult and slow. This should drive up demand for Primals, and also have the added effect of more PVP to control who gets to farm, but will make farming more difficult.

Where before I could farm 4 primals and hour, while two or three other people were also camping the same fire elementals; I now am farming with one other player and both of us are facing downtime as we wait for respawns. And only getting 2.5 - 3 prinals per hour.

I can confirm the respawn-rate nerf that sorcen posted about.

My shadowpriest with abt +650 shadow damage can clear every single fire elemental out before the first one killed respawns.

This, and the fact that the Elemental Plateau has become the haunting grounds of an alliance PvP guild on my server (I'm horde), makes other places, like the 2 camps of lvl70+ fire elementals in BEM, a better spot to farm.

This is by far the highest drop rate of motes of fire that I've come across. There's 9 adds, 3 in a group that stand over by these braziers. You can stand in the middle of two groups and not aggro anything.

They only aggro when you stand near them and they don't link. They have about 9k hp. They also seem to spawn in waves.

I was able to get a primal usually in a full clear of all 9!

Another way of "farming" these. Kill "Shimmerscale Eels" north of Terokkar Forest (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/npc=18750). They are VERY low on hp, which goes incredible fast @ lv. 70. Simply sell the primal water and buy primal fire.

This is my strategy, works faster than farming on fires.

It appears the droprate was nerfed. After about 10-20 minutes of farming, killed about 20 of these, not a single mote.

Either the listed drop rate is incorrect, or there's mechanics at work here that I'm not aware of. If the drop rate for motes of fire really is ~34% from these fire elementals, then the odds of killing ten of them in a row without getting a single mote is ~1.5%, and yet this happens to me all the time. It's impossibly improbable, unless my math is just retarded. =P

The drop rate seems to be OK, but these are difficult mobs to farm with my 70 arms warrior. I have decent gear (not great) and my health is down to around 50% after every fight. I fight with an epic 2h sword in berserker stance, which has worked best for me. Still, these are tough mobs to melee.

The above poster is incorrect in saying that shield bash will dispel the fire shield that this mob puts up. I used pummel and shield bash and neither worked. The best thing I can do is hamstring them and get out of melee range for a few seconds. I'd highly recommend wearing as much fire resistance gear as you can. Like I said, they hit hard, but they're definitely a good mob to farm for fire motes. They also drop essences as of patch 2.1.

Man, I usually have to kill 8-10 to get ONE mote of fire. I get more Primordial Essence then I do the motes. Did they really nerf these rates? On just about anything that drops a mote 1/3 times I have to kill about 8-10 of them for ONE mote :(. Maybe I have the worst luck in the entire universe?

Every time I use Kidney Shot they gain some sort of weird fire-shield hitting for 100ish... doesn't happen when I use Cheap Shot though...

as a warrior your armor does not mitigate any of the damage taken from these elementals because all the damage caused by these guys is magic. the only thing that will reduce it is FR.

Hmm, im a frost mage making the shadoweeve set... no way is the drop rate like 34%... i get about 1 primal an hour... is anyone else having this trouble ?

Ok, new patch, they must have restored the drop rate and spawn rate. I was practically having to watch my back to make certain they didn't respawn on top of me. They didn't, like an earlier poster commented, respawn as soon as the last one was dead, but close, and very fast. It seemed as if they all respawned at once.

The biggest problem is everyone is up there farming. I was in competition with a human lock, tauren druid, undead shadow priest and two boomkin. Those boomkin took them down cold. Had the boomkin not been friendly, courteous and helpful I might have spent the night waiting for them to get through before getting what I needed. Instead, they waited for me to hit and took the elementals down for me. Much faster and very much appreciated. I took what I needed and left them to it.

Besides the competition for fire elementals the smallness of the area also poses a problem. If you have to run from a fight, you have to make certain you aren't running into storm elementals and earth rumblers. Very cramped quarters.

The place is between Nagrand and Zangamarsh. I'm not certain but I think it's closer to fly from Zanga. But the buff is from Nagrand, the Halaa buff. Only 5% damage added but every little bit helps, especially when you're a soloing holy priest on your own.

The respawn rate for the fire elementals is reasonable, considering there are atleast 2-6 people there at any one time. If they were all down, you'd only have to wait maybe 30 seconds or less for the next bunch to spawn up.

I got 5 Primal Fires as a deep frost mage in about 3 hours, including in the 30 minutes - an hour of being camped by alliance because I'm a squishy cloth.

Considering the HP pool of these mobs, it's a better idea for people able to "DoT, Kill & Loot" to farm Motes of Fire in Blade's Edge or Shadowmoon Valley. The droprate diffrences aren't that important and they have about 30% less HP.
However, there's many trash mobs in Blade's Edge and the warlocks' imp gets damaged by fel lava in Shadowmoon Valley, even while shifted.

All I have to say is that you are lucky if on your sever you can farm anything . On my server Draenor everywhere you go to farm there is at least 5-10 people even in the middle of the night even at 2-5 am . All the so called good spots are gone over run ...:-(

As an SL/SL warlock i loved to farm these. I could pull up groups from 5-6 at the time and lose close to no HP or Mana at all, zero downtime! I always farmed at times when I knew there wherent a lot of people around to steal the mobs from me. The best part was that the motes had a 64% overall drop chance :) I made toons of gold per hour. And then came 2.4. I killed and killed and grinded on and on but the motes never dropped. I went on my rogue i tried to farm them for a while. after about 45 minutes I had a 12% drop chance on Motes of Fire and i sadly realised that the only way to make money was Isle of Quel'danas and all them boring Daily quests. Dam blizz :(

These guys hit stupid hard if you let them live more than a few seconds. They turn on some kind of fire damage aura that hits you for 400+ a tick. They also seem to have a high resillianec rating, as I almost never crit them.

The drop rate is approxmiately accurate, this is definitely one of the best places to farm for primal fire.

I am also not getting a very good drop rate. I am getting about a 15% drop rate. This is going to require days of farming to get all the primal fires i need =(

It is possible to get up without a flying moutn which is to be summoned up. make sure u have ok bag space and plan to stay there for a while.. i personally wouldn't eb bothered but if ur desperate try it. Get a lock and 2 randomers up there.

The reason the droprate is so high is that some of the time (if not most of the time, I'd say at least 50%) you get 2 motes in one go.

The area is heavily farmed on my server (Quel'Thalas) and I imagine it being the same on others. May be better off in Blade's Edge Mountains.

The reason u think they have a low drop rate is because there around 3-5 palyers farming...i get motes on every 3 mobs or something...=P so be wary of that or maybe i'm just lucky =D

drop rate has not been nerfed... this is still the best place to farm, though there's always a lot of competiton. not, as mentioned before, the easiest place to farm on pvp servers.. pve, however, you just have to get the elementals before other people do =D

This farming spot is a ghost town on my server, it must be why primal fires are such a low price - 17G to 20G. Doesn't bother me though because i farm these for my own use. I like it that way anways ^^,

been taking shifts between these and the air elementals :)

These are very good for farming motes of fire.. every 2nd kill either dropped 1 or 2 motes! even though there were 4 other people farming, I made half a mote in 7 kills.. very good drop rate in my opinion,

I searched for days looking for somewhere to farm primal fires quick, and this beats them all..

I farmed motes of fire for about three hours last night, the drop rate was about 33%. Meaning every third mob dropped motes. However, given that roughly every other drop was a double (x2 motes) you could move the drop rate upwards to around, what? 40-42%?

Heavily farmed! The good thing? Quick respawns, you won't be waiting more than a couple of minutes for a repop.

In three hours I managed to get about 30 motes which isn't bad considering I was sharing mobs with literally ten other ppl.

The water elementals up there are also an excellent source for motes of water and don't appear to be as heavily camped. I had two primal waters in about 25 minutes.

Don't hope for an epic on these. Blizzard either knew when they released BC or knows now and put it in some patch, if epics or blues had even a 0.5% drop rate on tehse things, it would mess the WoW eco up a ton because I myself have probably killed at least 3000 of them and I just dinged 70 a month ago. At best hope for a Khorium lockbox (got bringer of death one time in one) and the grey's these drop go for about 2.5g a stack, so whatever drops, unles nothing, its a good place to farm.

they dont have a really high drop rate when im farming them
there are also about 4 or 5 people trying to steal them, so im not quitte that effective as i ussualy am with my hunter (mainly because i have to do some prepairing moves and have to launch aimed shot to be effective)
i think you should rather farm motes of water from the water elementals
they have a higher droprate and with the money you amke you can try to buy motes and primals of AH
also, when you're there, try to farm motes of air, those are as expensive as motes of fire, but the air elementals are less crowded

just went to farm these about 5 minutes ago...

first drop were some level 70 blue cloth pants :) havent tried selling em yet but will soon....
however the drop for motes was EXTREMELY low; im talking 15-20 kills and only 1 mote drop. any word on whether or not they nerfed the drop rate because i used to farm these guys all the time and i was never getting this kind of luck.

I am a Holy Pally and even before the 2.3 spell damage buff I got a ton of drops and was able to compete with Warlocks/Mages/Rogues. My Mobinfo personal database showed 48.6 percent after about 160 kills.

As for heavily trafficked the re-spawn rate is so high this area can easily support 4-8 people.

these guys hit for almost 500-800 to a Mail wearer, almost 450-550 on my pet, worst of all after about 50% of their health is gone they do a fire aura that damages you if you get too close to them, if your a hunter i would suggest to get a pet that has alot of health and that can hold aggro

Me and my pally friend come here everynite same time for a few hours, it is very competative but he just pulls 4 of them and then i a rogue drop them 1 by 1, good system every1 else usually gets board of us taking them all and leave, end up with an easy 100motes from a 2 hours work.. plus the odd blue n purples :)

Warriors (specially prot) can't grind motes of fire worth a !@#$ there unless you have damn good FR. Around 5k health taken every mob. >_<

Yes, if you kill 10,000 of these guys, you will probably drop 1 epic. I got lucky and dropped a Staff of Natural Fury. Enjoy farming that =P
