Completely worth the money to craft, if you are a dwarf / tauren. I don't remember the last time I missed firing my gun with this weapon. Of course there are obviously better weapons out there, but if you're not a raider, this is one of the best for a race with gun racial ability. The damage output might seem comparatively low, but not missing counts.

This costs over 100g to craft, because the 10 Arcanite Bars alone will probably cost you about that much.

However, in Hellfire Peninsula you can easily obtain an Ironstar Repeater (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=29916) at level 58. It does have higher dps and better bonuses.

So it's rather unlikely that somebody will spend 100g or more on a gun that will be obsolete after two or three levels.

Great gun before the expansion, rather worthless now. To be honest, I would not even bother learning the schematic.

Well this gun has a certain Indian flavor to it. I`m going to craft it for my alliance hunter just for the nice hunter looks. It`s expensive but it`s worth every gold for me just for the looks

this was the best gun i'd seen that i i knew i could get my hands on, im a lvl 60 hunter, and i realy wanted it, decent graphics, nice dps, then there was the Ancient bone bow...if you dont mind switching to bows and doing a few Scholo runs, i sugjest going for the ancient bone bow, look it up for yourself it pwns

Withe the arrival of Bloodseeker (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=40260) anyone trying to get this gun made is sadly just wasting gold and resources. One of the best ranged weapons in the game (even after the nerf) is available as a quest reward at level 51, while people have to wait till 56 for this undoubtedly great, but hardly worth the effort, gun. On most servers it will set you back up to 400g and if you're playing your first character on a server, you most likey won't have that money to spend at that level, so you'll just have to wait till 60 (when your guild might already be raiding MC). To top it off, the price of Dwarven Hand Cannon (https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=17204/oeil-de-sulfuras) has fallen drastically (on european Daggerspine it already goes for mere 200g in AH) AND is available at level 53, so why should anyone bother with FAR. Sadly, one of the few engineering recipes that could be a potential moneymaker is now more or less useless. Oh, the things I could sell if it wasn't for that pesky "Requires Engineering..." Unless you're a hardcore pvp freak and use your profession to help you get an advantage in pvp, engineering is just a frustrating money pit. I used to covet this gun, then I entered my first AV at lvl 54 and luckilly gott into a Korrak killing raid. Why bother now?

I got this gun a few days ago ITS SICK. im using the ammo from AV thats 16.8extra dps my normal dmg to a guy w full might armour is aroudn 2-250 i dotn have giantstalker eather. so the gun worth it.

I think this gun should be used with the Beaststalker Set and the TrueAim Gauntlets https://www.wowhead.com/tbc/item=5352/livre-les-puissances-den-bas
(wich gives you +8 to all ranged stats)
think about it +8+4=+12 at lvl 60 you will have 312 in guns..wich i think is even better than some epics you can get at this lvl...

BTW, I can make it on EU-Skullcrusher , Horde side..
Just bring the materials and wishper anhkha...the price? just 1 gold since you will spend all your money on mats:)

After ranged weapon normalisation this rifle, previously fashionable but impractical, became pretty useful. Sure, it can't compete with epic weapons but it is great all-purpose rifle.

I have tested it with Bloodseeker in both PvP and PvE and i believe that it now beats Bloodseeker completely. Faster rate means more shots on incoming enemy, damage is comparable, increased reliability provide some comfort.

And the look... Um, sweet...

Just imagine... this with Sash of the Grand Hunt,
Marksman Bands,
Trueaim Gauntlets, and the dwarven racial. That's, like, +21 to guns. You'll be missing as much as a character four levels ahead of you would. =D

Is there anything else that I'm missing which adds skill to guns?

i wouldnt even bother on get this weapon, it is just soo expensive for the matts it requires. only for the arcanite bars you would spend about to 300-400G.

i would recomend to get:
Gorewood Bow
Binds when picked up
Ranged Bow
55 - 104 Damage Speed 2.50
(31.8 damage per second)
+2 Strength
+3 Agility
+9 Stamina

wich is a quest reward weapons and it can be done in lest than 2 hours(most of the time you spend it flying).

What is the advantage to crafting this gun over, say, getting Farahad's Reloading Repeater or some other weapon from a quest? I am definitely making one of these for my hunter, just because I can and can easily farm the mats. I think for how nice this gun is, it needs a slight stat boost.

Now the bow I'm currently using has better dps and damage but I would like to increse my gun skills. I've been looken around for a decent rifle and this seems to be the one. Any1 know where I can find the mats and the recipe?

This is an excellent gun and well worth farming the mats for (or if you're like me you have a guildmate make it for free for you! Thanks Rowscardra!) I hit the Baroness in Strat for just under 2500 last night with one aimed shot crit. Add Thorium shells to this and you'll always be near the top of the damagemeter list.

The CMR MAY argueably be a better gun, but this is much more accessable, does excellent damage and looks kick-butt. I love the tribal design, the integrated scope graphic, the axehead end and the feather. It's got that classic long-rifle look, unlike the bulky, multitube disaster that the CMR is. THIS is what a hunter's gun should look like.

This is a great gun, love the crits, in the 2100-2400+ range.
I can make this on Khaz Modan Server, just Msg or mail Bruin, can make for mats or for Price , PST in game or mail for info.

From what I've heard from the test server, the bonuses this gun gets are more in line with hunters than the bonuses on Willey's gun. The Howitzer will remain the standard gun of the frequent raiding hunter because drops don't require collecting all that arcanite, but the Flawless Arcanite Rifle will become the new standard for those who want the best (and can't rely on a Dwarven Hand Cannon or that gun from MC dropping into their lap).

I just wish the schematic was easier to farm, the drop rate is riduculously low and I haven't been having much luck.

I found this schematic after only a few kills up in EPL. I plan to make this gun for personal use since i've been unable to find a DHC for myself. I'm a miner/engineer and have some arcanite and arcane crystals waiting for transmute. Should take a couple of weeks.

When you consider that Willey's Portable Howitzer is a 20% drop from Cannonmaster Willey in Stratholme, ( Obusier portatif de Willey ) I don't think the FAR is worth the expense and trouble of making one.
Edit: Even with it's .6 second faster firing rate, I was getting frequent 1800-1900 crits last night in Winterspring. I had 3 out of 4 aimed shots crit in this range, all in a row.

Dont make this. You have to be on crack to make this. 10 arcanite bars=250g if ur buying. Yes, crystals are farmeable if ur lucky mining in EPL. DHC sells for 130-160g on my server. Id rather sell my crystals than make this.
Any lvl 50+ blue crossbow can equal this in aimed crit, yes Bloodseeker, Heartseeking, Carapace...and even the Gorewood Bow can equal that despite its faster fire rate...

I personally think this rifle is better than portable howitzer for a number of reasons:

1. Its higher maximum damage

This means possibly higher maximum critical hit. Along with Aimed Shot, you can hit 2k+ critical hit with this rifle. That's just not the case with portable howitzer. (I know this is possible. Dwarven Handcannon hits over 2.4k with aimed shot.)

2. Slower ammunication dissipation.

If you go on a long, long raid like MC raid, the ammunition becomes a problem. pea-shooters will just eat up the ammunition. You'll need to carry more to give just about same damage output. If you run out of it... tough luck.

i have trouble seeing the point of ever making a gun as engineer, you can get access to better at lower lvl. and this is the best gun we can make? guess all i have to look forward to past 250 is new dragon at 300

To those making fun of the Howitzer...it's really just a matter of egotism.

Same DPS, but slower speed.
Hunters love stamina and no one says No to spirit, no matter what class you are.
As for the FAR, I had an engineer in my guild make me one, we worked on the mats together for four weeks since no one on my server auctions Arcane Crystals, and if they do, it's rare/way too expensive.
The +4 to guns is nice, with beaststalker raiment and Dwarven racial, that's +14 to guns. And it actually works now in 1.7.
The attack power isn't really anything to write home about, considering that 1 AGI = 14 AP.
I'd much rather have the +9stam/spi from the Howitzer giving me that extra survivability, than slightly less than one AGI, but without the crit or AC bonuses.

So you gotta look at it, do you want to pay 300 gold and get +4 to guns? Or go to strat a couple times and get +9 stamina?

Neither one is "better" since the DPS is identical. It depends on what kind of hunter you are.

I wish people would quit judging weapons on their own ideologies. Guess what? I don't like swords with strength. But warriors do. Does the sword suck? For how I play my char. Yes. For how the warrior plays his char.? No.

Reality grip, people.

Also, a higher damage range does NOT = a higher crit. Considering how close the Howitzer and the FAR are in range...yeah.

At the best, the crit different might be 100 dmg, at the worst it might be 10. That's assuming that you do you crit enough to have an average. That's assuming that all those crits hit the high end instead of flopping to the middle or lower.

Now, when fighting heavilly armoured opponents with 50% damage reduction, you cut that in half, 5-50 damage difference on crits.

That is nothing to write home about unless you're on crack.

Wanting to get the best under lvl 60 gun (wanting to do some PvPing 'fore I hit 60, of course) and after careful investigation, and I'm no sleuth, I decided that this gun fit my requirements (obtainable without giving up my first born)...spent three weeks keeping a keen eye on AH, got the two Azerothian Diamonds for 2.5g each and 9 of 10 Arcanite Bars for 10-11g each, (though usually listed in the 15g-20 range, just kept putting down bids and occassionally winning them) 10th bar was graciously bought for me by my duo'ing partner (her logic, we'd BOTH benefit from me having this gun), 12 Thorium bars were given to me by a friend to make the 2 Thorium tubes, farmed the Essences of Fire and Earth, that took about 3.5-4hrs. (earth was much more difficult), and someone, seeing my WTBs on Trade Channel, kindly donated the two Enchanted Leathers (kindness and charm DO go a long way)...oh, and making friends with a pair of high level engineers certainly came in handy, (so include a scope!)...now to ding two more times so I can fire this bad boy!

Willey's Portable Howitzer is not tough to obtain, has the same DPS, and additional adds.

This said, Blizzard mentioned something about putting some adds onto crafted guns in the next patch. Until this has happened, I would NOT make this gun. It's a horrible waste of money.

i've had the schematic in my possession for a long long time now, but i'm not sure it's worth it to spend the 300gish to make it, then not be able to serll it. is it possible to sell this thing for around 350 or even 300g with the new stats?

I think it's worth the material cost. If you figure it's 300-400g on the AH the next best gun for PVP (DHC) is at least on my server 700-800g due to the extremely low drop rate.

I think it's a reasonable price by comparison and overall the best 'achievable' PVP gun in the game right now. It's great for PVP because of the solid damage in single hits. It's much harder to respond to say a single 2400+ aimshot crit which I got last night on a 60 mage, my previous gun (Protable Howizter) didn't come close to that kind of damage on an aimshot and something like a Hurricane is far less effective since it's death by a thousand needles which is much easier to respond to.

It's simple: Which is worse watching over half your health vanish in one hit or it slowly widdle down as a guy pelts you with dozens of low damage hits? I think the single big hit scares ppl quite a bit more.

Plus it does look cool. :)

any man who says the difference in dmg between the howitzer and FAR is not much is a goon... i had both weapons and the Howitzer crit at about 1700-1800 at most while my FAR has crit for 2200+... if you care to argue, ill take screenshots to prove it...

For Dwarves and Tauren, this thing rocks. Dwarves/Tauren get a passive +5 to guns skill, which means at level 60 (with 300 gun skill) they will hit the opponent as if they were level 61 (305 skill w/ racial). This means they will miss less. With this additional +4 to guns, that means they'll his as if they were level 61.8, almost a hit rate of a level 62. It might not make much sense, but this means at level 60 you'll hit A LOT more than a regular level 60 Night Elf/Orc/Troll Hunter with this gun. Invaluable for Molten Core where you can miss the level ? bosses a bit. Coupling this gun with +1/2% hit items, and you'll have a very low miss rate.

This post was aimed for Dwarves/Tauren. The gun is nice for all other race of Hunter, but it won't be as effective.
