Totems, Idols and Librams are a great source of extra abilities only available to a few certain other classes in replace of a secondary ranged weapon.

Actually, this is a utterly useless totem. I was chuffed when it dropped from Hungerfen, until I realised what little it actually does. 12 extra mana? When I have nearly 7000 mana, getting an extra 12 back when water shield goes off is pretty inconsequential. Even when I briefly tried out this totem, I still had to sit and drink after every two or three fights. Now if it doubled or even just increased mana from water shield by +50%, that would be cool. But it doesn't, so only worth selling really.

For enhancement shamans, who do much more melee than casting this is an excellent totem, at level 70 I still want it. I always keep mana shield up and only cast Stormstrike and earthshock (together, whenever Stormstrike is cooled down) and when I heal. With this pattern I can farm lvl 67 and lower mobs without ever stopping to drink or bandage, and I go through at least 1 whole cast of water shield each fight, so this totem would give me 36 mana or more, and I could grind higher lvl mobs longer.

for elemental shamans, I consider this to be somewhat worthless compared to totem of lightning, seeing as each fight you will cast FAR more lightning bolt/chain lightning, and the effect from those is -15 mana cost
however, I would agree that this certainly does have its uses for enhancement leveling

Upcoming changes in Patch 2.3

Totem of the Thunderhead: The additional mana granted to Water Shield by this totem has been increased.

Also Water Shield spell itself is getting some changes.

As relics are in the slot where ranged weps normally are, isn't it possible just to quickly switch out totems just when the new 1 minute timer on WS runs out, even in combat? Then I would say that this totem is a must have if u'r a little shifty on our relics ;)

I'd say it's good for elemental shamans in pve too. That might be because I am a little poor geared, but I allways have water shield on for the mana I get when it pops out. Almost never go oom.

As of the most recent patch (2.3.2) this totem also adds 2 mp/5 in addition to the additional mana restore.

as an elemental shaman you are much better off using the totems that buffs lightning bolt or lowers its mana cost.

as a resto use a totem that buffs your healing

as an enhancement shaman this totem is ok'ish for soloing but a totem that buffs (earth)shocks is still far better.

the buff should be at least 50 mana more per charge or something

This very nice after 2.3 patch, every 1 minute I am now getting back 717 Mana, very nice.
Great in boss fights as enhance shammy, can now keep dropping Fire Nova Totem without fear of going OOM before end of fight.

Lol, yea, i so want this i just ran Underbog the other day and it didnt drop, so i just went to the next boss for the Hatebringer :) But yeah, Water Shield is my new best friend as well as a Enhancement shaman :) Never run out of mana, love being OP

lol RESTO FTW! helaer w/ extra 60mp5 is amazing and as if that wasn't enuff they made mana spring totem better lawl. Now all they need to do to make it more OP is sumthing like make our dmg totems better based on spelldmg/atk power. haha

i want to get this, my 63 resto shaman alt currently has 95 Mana per 5 sec WHILE casting, so this would help a little bit. every bit of MP5 helps, especially with mana spring down on top of that, i get 95 Mana per 5 sec, then also an extra 21 every 2 sec from mana spring. Thats 1,770 Mana per min. I have gemmed everything with healing and mp5 gems. And i must say my high mp5 has saved many a group. Bad pull? no problem, MP5 FTW.

i got this totem to :) im an enhandce shaman and it works fine :) rlly handy if you're resto to for watershield im gonna wear it until i find much better one. Totem of the Thunderhead is rare totem to drop dont ya think? it has a drop rate of
4.3% that aint much

This comment is a bit late to the party, but you can use this totem to snapshot your Water Shield prepull to add the extra 2mp5 per tick and 27 mana on hit (for a total of 52mp5 and 230 per hit). If you try to refresh your Water Shield while you have the snapshotted values but have put on a different totem, you will get the "A more powerful spell is already active" error message. If you want to squeeze just a little extra out of Water Shield, it's worth creating a macro to equip, Water Shield, and then re-equip your Totem of Healing Rains or whichever totem you might be using primarily.
