Head of Esports Brandon Snow is leaving Activision Blizzard to pursue a new opportunity. As reported by the
Sports Business Journal
, Snow has provided oversight for the Overwatch and Call of Duty Leagues since being promoted to the position last July, although it's unlikely much will change from players' perspectives, as Sean Miller will continue to head the Overwatch League and Daniel Tsay will do the same for Call of Duty. An executive replacement has yet to be named, though Chief Administrative Officer Brian Bulatao will be taking on many of his responsibilities for the time being.
During his time with Activision, previously as Chief Revenue Officer of Esports Partnerships, Snow is said to have led negotiations to bring sponsors like Coca-Cola into the Overwatch League (though many have since
waned in the face of controversy
). These executives are often unnoticed by players, though Snow has had a rather interesting career. He was featured on an episode of the podcast
Grit, with Joubin Mirzadegan
, wherein he spoke about his work as a marketing executive for the NBA in China and his experience at marketing firm Heye & Partner in Germany, during which the team he was a part of came up with the famous McDonalds tagline, "I'm lovin' it" in the early 2000's. The podcast further discussed Activision Blizzard's model for esports leagues and their vision to build "generational fandom" for professional video game teams over time - it's a lengthy discussion, but well worth the listen.
