I did this solo no problem...53 rogue. Stealthed in, waited for the caster elite to walk away, sapped the melee elite, made the mallet, vanished.

Solo'd as a 45 rogue. Same as Cutty: Stealthed in, waited for caster to path away, sapped the warrior (twice, distract was resisted the 1st time but he never turned around anyway-I was a little surprised sap worked on him at 5 levels above me), the hard part for me was the 51 elite wolf in front of the altar who has a really short path. He was growling at me from quite a distance. But if you approach the altar from the cave side and wait till the wolf paths away you can do it and vanish.

Hehe, this wasen't hard at all! We were 4 ppl, Tank,druid,hunter and me a priest, all lvl 48, i took about 20-30 im without any deaths.

Solo'd as a 49 druid pretty easily, stealth in, go up to altar, wait for the named and elite wolf to pat away, destealth and create mallet while the last one hits you a few times, then just ran away

Solo it as a lvl 44 rogue, a couple of times i almost got detected while stealthed , but when i got up close to the altar, just waited for the pristess to go away into the cave sprinted while still in stealth made the mallet and vanish went to a safe place, hearthed out also watch for the wolfs around if your a low lvl.

The mallet ain't that hard to get, cleared all the way up, nuked the mob that drops it, looted and fled in ghostwolf.
Mounted/Ghost wolfed all the way trough a sea of mobs, up to the altar. (killed 2-3 lvl 51 wofves, 2-3 guards and the Q mod that patrol outside the cave.)

All this is a lvl 47 enhancement shaman with 2.6k hp so wouldn't be that hard for anyone ells I think.

Take all ur gear off and get on the horse.. Follow the path all the way to the top.. FOLLOW THE PATH ... Once at the top the road branches into several directions .. in front of you is the cave metioned in other posts.. this a place to rest if u die .. no mobs inside the cave .. HOWEVER the altar is just to the left branch as u go up to this point... NO NEED to go to CAVE .. FOLLOW the LEFT ROAD BRANCH the altar is in the middle of the open area.. there is no active pointer to it... but is clearly visible in the center at 59.78 make sure u have full health and use mallet at the altar... u will die.. res at the angel... or try running back.. good luck

If u are rogue, this is easy... stealth and go altar spot (tloc 59,77). Right timing is the key here. There is patrol and wolf in altar or nearby, when they leave, just sap that one Aman'zasi Guard, then use that mallet thing. Be sure that you stand on altar. After you have that Mallet of Zul'Farrak just vanish...

OK.... The Sacred Mallet is obtained from a lvl 50 elite troll at the top of Altar of Zul, due West of Jinth'a Alor. There are a pair of these elites, one of which heals the other - best done with someone else.....

You then take the mallet up the winding stairs of Jinth'a Alor to the altar there - whole place is packed with lvl 46 - 50 elites, so either go mob-handed or be prepared to stealth in some way, be it invisibility potions etc.

The bottom third is the tightest to get past mobs, it opens out a bit after that.....

There is no quest associated - just use the mallet at the altar and hey presto, you have the Mallet of Zul'Farrak, for use in the instance of that name outside Gadgetzan - it opens up access to a main boss there.....

the correct coordinates once you get the mallet in order to make it into the mallet of zul'farrek are 59,77 that is where the altar is to transform it.

For those still wondering where the Sacred Mallet drops, it's at the top of the Altar of Zul (coordinates 49, 68). At the top of the altar are usually 3 Soothsayers(regular) and 2 ELITE mobs, one of which drops the mallet. Personally, I think the design team are idiots for putting a mallet for a level 44+ instance on a coupla 50Elites. Your troubles don't end here...once you have the mallet, you have to charge it up at the altar of Jinth Alor which is Elites all around.

What is the purpose of this? They shoulda just put the charged mallet on a certain named elite at the Jinth Alor altar since you're going there anyways.

i am a 45 pally it took me a 49 warrior 53mage and a 60 warrior to get mallet this should not be for a 44+ instance wtf

Me a level 45 mage, and a 47 hunter got the mallet, and duoed our way to the alter, and got our hammers. Wasn't that hard, and it definately wasn't more difficult than any of the boss mobs in ZF. If you can't get the hammer, you probably shouldn't be trying the boss mob.

It is possible to acquire the Sacred Mallet as a 52 shadow priest (I did it just now). Straightforward enough: make your way up the altar, killing the non-elite trolls. There should be no more than 2-3 on the staircase, and around 2 with the 2 elites at the top.

Mind control each non-elite in turn: the focus fire of the other mobs will quickly burn your mind-controlled pet down, then run away until they de-aggro. Once the non-elites are taken care of, de-aggro (i.e. run), come back and mind-control one of the two elites. The one I MC'd had 3 abilities: Shadow Word:Pain, Shadow Bolt and Healing Wave. I shadow bolted the other elite, while keeping SW:P up, until I lost control, at which point both were around half health and close to being out of mana. Crowd control at least one (I used Psychic Scream to fear them both) and kill the other one, and then kill the remaining one.

You can just kill Qiaga to get the Sacred Mallet, the other one doesn't drop anything nice, but I did end up killing both.

As a lvl50 Frost Mage i solo'd both of these. Was quite tough though, used quite a few cooldowns.

I was a 45 Hunter and two other hunters were helpin me too, they were both 45. First we cleared the mobs around Altar of Zul. Then there was only the two elites and two mobs left. We sent in our pets to attack Qiaga. Each of us used a freeze trap on the mobs and the other elite. Then all attacked the 50 elite until she was dead, picked up our Sacred mallets and ran a bit then used Feign Death. The other hunters left after that. Then i went to Jintha'Alor to charge the Mallet. I used the run, die and ressurect a little further bit technique. When i came to the altar there was a lvl 50-52 elite but when she went away a bit i ressurected in a safe spot to get full Health and Mana. Then i waited for the elite to walk away and then i sent in my pet so he took all aggro. Then i just stood right on the altar and clicked on the sacred mallet in my inventory. Then my pet died so i ran to the safe spot and used Feign Death. And then HS'ed out. All this probly took bout 2 hours.

Both Altar of Zul and Jintha'Alor can be found in The Hinterlands.

I found this was difficult.. but not impossible to solo as a lvl 48 mage

I am Ice Spec... so without my gear I ran all the way up to the alter with Ice barriers and Mana shields.... then died... came back Mana and Ice barriered again.. made mallet while being attacked

Last year I did this with my mage and two rogue friends. Let's just say I died quite a few deaths while they vanished. (I don't remember what level we were).

I just completed this again, only as a 53 hunter this time around. It was ridiculously easy in comparison, and I solo'd both parts. Kill trash on your way up the Alter of Zul. When you get to the top, lure the first soothsayer down the stairs and kill him. Then kill the two lvl 50 named elites. The hammer drops off the one. You will never even aggro the other two soothsayers.

Mount up and run over to Jintha'alor. Go past it and climb the Overlook Cliffs. This will allow you to drop down onto a ledge and skip half the city. Run up all the stairs but instead of taking a left to the altar, go right and stop where the waterfall and gong are. You should lose aggro at this point. Feign death or jump in the water if you have to. Then run back to the right to the altar. I had to kill one of the wolves on my way down, but it died fast. Nothing else aggro'd. Not even Priestess Hexx. Hearth out.

Warlock here, got the mace along with a mage at level 47. At level 48 I cleared my way to the top of Jintha'Alor with a few deaths along the way, finally to finish it I just ran in with the voidwalker out in case I needed the shield (which I didn't), used howl of terror and used the mallet while standing on the altar. The use is a 3 second cast so you have more than enough time to finish the quest. Die, take the spirit rez and you're done. You CAN run back in if you did the strip and run method, but the run is so long I didn't deem it worthwhile.

tloc 59.78 confirmed. do not enter the cave just go stand on the altar and use the sacred mallet. u'll automatically receive the mallet of zf and get the heck out of there ;)

Patch 2.3 didn't change the basic problem. This isn't about getting to the altar, it's getting the mallet from the two L50s at the top of the stairs. One heals the other and both are surrounded by 3-4 other healers.

I was able to do this only with the assistance of a friendly L70 Rogue. I would say you MUST group with at least two other people to have any chance at all of getting this mallet at around L45. otherwise, wait to solo it at, say L50+.

Completed as a lvl 48 Lock, There was only one lvl 50 when i went up to the the top soo it was pretty easy,guess i got lucky. took everything at once, dotted and wanded, had to use deathcoil and health funnel but fairly easy for people with pets.

I soloed this as a 47 warrior.

Go to the first place the Temple.
Take off all your armor, get on your mount and ride up to the top and get back into the far right corner where there are no mobs.

Res back at the corner, heal up eat whatevr.
Once ur full hp and mana go ahead and just charge the priest kill her loot and die hehe.

Now u have the mallet =P
now to enchant it.

Get to the second place south east of the temple.
Same as before remove all armor, ride all the way up follow the path. try and die near the walls so u can res 1 level higher.

once ur at the altar simply res, u might have to kill the lvl 51 wolf, if not intimidating shout, then enchant that mallet while hes gone. then ull prolly die cuz he ran off and aggroed the rest of the world.

res at healer, pay no repair bill laugh that u soled this =P

Just a Note about this quest since the most recent Patch the 2 Mobs at the top of the Alter of Zul are no longer Elites just lvl 50 i soled this part of the quest with no Problem with my lvl 48 Hunter.

I tried to get the Mallet with my lvl 47 Shadow Priest, and died twice using a brute force attack. Both elites are spellcasters, and I got toasted in the crossfire.

Then I found a neat little trick that totally worked. After dieing so many times, I was actually a bit shocked to find both elites dead at my feet, and me less than half beaten down. I think the technique will work for any high DPS spellcaster.

You'll notice that until you get to the top of the staircase, you dont have line of sight to spellcast against the elites. Well that sucks, but on the flip side, they dont have line of sight on you, either.

So, here's what you do:

1) Clear the mobs off the stairs (there are two lvl 46 spellcasters-- easy to solo)
2) Stand just below the top of the staircase and buff. Take some time to observe the movement of the three mobs by the altar. The non-elite stands closest to you. Qiaga is generally on the right side.
3) When the time is right, pop up real quick and pull the non-elite mob with an instant cast spell, then retreat back down the stairs to kill him. You NEED to retreat before the elites aggro, or you will die. Choose a time to pull the non-elite when the others have stepped back a bit, and are turned away. Be very patient and be selective when you pull. Getting this wrong is an easy way to die-- as I know first hand.
4) Go back up just below the top of the stair, step up and cast some DOT and high damage spells against Qiaga. As shadow priest, I used Shadow Word:Pain plus Mind Flay. Both elites instantly start casting spells.
5) Stay on the top step of the staircase, keep casting and keep your distance. Get as much damage done while both elites are casting. Do not Silence the casters, or they will approach you to engage hand to hand.
6) NOW: Just before Quiaga's spell launches, take a few steps back down the stairs until the elite's spells are Interrupted, because you're now out of sight. Perfect!
7) Once she is Interrupted, but before either elite can run forward to pursue you, immediately, step back up into sight. They will both start their casting cycle again.
8) Repeat once or twice, if you can. Taking some damage is inevitable. Timing is key. Eventually, the elites will make their way to the edge of the temple staircase, but hopefully by then Qiaga will be pretty close to dead. Once she was dead, I had no real problem soloing the other one.

I went back to see if I could do it again. The hardest part for me was pulling the non-elite without triggering the other two. Have to say, my success rate is only about 60% at lvl 47. But even when I failed, I was able to run back, res, and finish the job on the second try. But if you keep cool under fire, this can work with 0 deaths.

Maybe hard if u dont hit lvl 50mobs but i gave it a try and easy maked my own way =)

Easy as 47 Feral Druid with NO instance gear (the blues I had was from quests, rest green).

Just buff up, cat from, prowl. Kill a spellcaster and run to loose that aggro. When the three spellcasters are down, just hit either of the bosses with all you got and heal if necessary. I healed when first boss was down and second was at 40% health.

Now I am just waiting for those damn allies to leave Jinthalor.

Yes druid prowl is a wonderful thing - prowled all the way to the altar - killed 2 mobs on top of altar - created mallet and hearthstoned out - about 6 minutes all up.

It took me almost 30 mins and a lot of pots and damage to do this on my warrior at a similar lvl.

So the moral is - if you've got some form of stealth -
use it!

I died a couple of times before getting this right. First of all be sure to clear mobs around the base of the temple. Go back down and clear any respawns or patrols you missed once you are at the top before engaging the two toughs.

This fight probably wouldn't be too tough if it wasn't for the fact that they are probably 3 - 4 levels above you.

Pull the one ordinary spellcaster as others have described by using line of sight. Wait for the right moment and you should be fine.

Drop totems below the LOS and mana up before you start the main pull. Be sure to drop a grounding totem as you will want to be able to drop another one as soon as it is used up.

Once you pull Qiaga, the other one comes as well. I used chain lightning, but it's really not necessary. For me, it did NOT jump to (or aggro) a third, just FYI.

As before, use LOS to pull them to the steps as far as you can. You may be able to use a shock early in the battle, but be sure to save your earthshock to prevent heals later on. You don't want to get caught with it on cooldown. Focus on Qiaga and don't worry about the other one unless it starts to heal her. (If it does, earthshock it, and come back to Qiaga.) When you get Qiaga down around 1/3 hit points left, forget about keeping your grounding totem up and drop Grace of Air to make your crits soar. You should be able to burst her down real quick before a heal can land.

Once she's down, you can try looting the corpse if you think you can. (I didn't.) Then use your get away tactics. (Stoneclaw, earthbind, ghostwolf or however you prefer to do it.) You'll have to run a fair distance and the mobs are fairly clustered with quite a few that wander. That's why it is important to clear the mobs around the base of the temple. Once you drop aggro on the other one, go back and get the loot if you didn't. The body is far enough away that the other one won't aggro.

ok, this quest got nerfed. soloed as 49 shadow priest no problem. A couple of shadow word: pains and a little mind blasting and I had the mallet. I just don't understand why it is so hard to get the mallet, by the time you are high enough level to kill the 2 50's with the mallet, you are already too high for ZF...

Kill Qiaga the Keeper on a Temple at 49,68 in The Hinterlands.
Loot the troll take mallet, there is another elite troll with her plus a non elite.

then take it to the alter at 61,81 The Hinterlands It's a shrine at the end of the road. If your a rogue wait till Hexx is gone then sap the other troll, then use the Mallet when by shrine.

Well, the altar is the area that sorta looks like an altar surrounded by a shallow ampitheatre... unfortunately, the altar is guarded by at least one elite 50-51 guard and the elite 53 pricess hexx... and the wench turns you into a frog too

solo at 53 pally. just dont agro the hex troll and its not that hard. it was harder getting there than it was actually using the altar.

i found it easy so i decided to kill guys for xp.

hex troll turned me into frog. hit me with shadow word pain. hit me with his stick. the he rinsed and repeated till i was dead

I did get the mallet first though.

Soloed the quest with 46. Wait until the witch doctor goes into the cavern, then distract the wolf und sap the last remaining guard. Craft your hammer, vanish, finished. pretty easy.

Thought I could solo to the altar as a L46 Pally, and I probably could have...but it would have taken a long time and I would have had to have been lucky.

Went up the first set of stairs, got jumped by a warlock, hexed into a chicken for 10 seconds, then got beaten like...a chicken.

Invited a friend who happened to be on-line, a L45 Hunter. We made it all the way to the end of the trail where the altar is, sometimes following a group of Blood Elves. Even though we couldn't speak each other's language, we helped each other out by killing mobs which made it easier for all of us.

Once you get to the altar, activating the mallet is easy. It is the "getting there" and "leaving there" part that is challenging.

Followed the Blood Elves part of the way out. They were on a different quest so we eventually broke away from them and made it out. We did have one close call where we aggro'ed three mobs but still survived...however I had to rez my Hunter friend and heal both him and his pet before we could continue.

Next stop...Tanaris!

I was lvl 47 when u got this mallet, but i'm a hunter so pet tanked and i just shooted mobs from the altar one by one.
The hardest part was to enhance to mallet. I ran to the big troll city, died there. Scouted as a ghost to find the altar. Then ressed and ran mounted closest possible. Died on the run relatively close. Then i ressed again and grinded mobs one by on with my pet. Arriving at altar i shooted wolves, then when Princess Hex for far shooted mob that slept at altar. After that when Hex was far i approached altar and enchanted mallet. Killed princess for fun after.
Was a challenge :)

I soloed mist of the with my druid (lvl 47)

Well i started out getting the hammer with 2 lvl 50's 1 priest 1 pally then i stealed around the place and died about 3 or 4 times then simply went to alter waited for the patrollers to go away then made mt move by jumoing up the stairs and quickly activateing the hammer. to activate it its about a 3 sec. cast and i had 2 secs to run away. oh if you get the chance wait for some horde to try and kill the mobs. then just tag along.

It is very odd that for a lvl 50(elite) quest you would need to kill a 53(elite) princess. Then you go to zf and kill a 46(elite) to complete the quest. I would just think it should get harder as you do it, not easier, because making the sacred mallet into the zf one is very hard and almost impossible solo

What threw me was that I was looking for a clickable altar. You aren't. Go to the center of the ampitheatre and then CLICK THE MALLET - duh. Took me too long to figure that out.

No elites or anything by the alter, just some lvl 50-51 dogs. Just wait for the Princess to go back into the cave and run up to the alter and make the mallet.

After you enter ruins you go all the way up, on the last ledder you will see a cave in front of you, no need to visit a cave, you just go left after you climb ladder and you will come to amphitheatre, in center of it will be altar

Did the complete Zul Farrak instance last night only to realize at the end that nobody had the hammer. So three of us left the group (46 Mage, 46 Pally and 46 Rogue) to make the trek to hinterlands to grab the mallet. Then made our way to Jintha to try and convert it on the altar there.

Here's where the screwy part starts. The mobs there are all 48-49 Elite at the lower lvl part of the temple, then 50 to 51 at the top. We made our way slowly but surely to the altar, grinding through mobs along the way one at time, only to realize there was no way the three of us could take the three 51 elite mobs guarding the altar, not to mention several 50 to 51 elite wolves roaming around.

All of that to get a mallet so you can summon a lesser boss? I mean the entire Zul Farrak instance is much easier than Jintha...It just doesn't make any sense. The whole time we're thinking wtf, this is really messed up!

So, unless you have a a group of 4-5 very well organized 46-48 toons, forget about it until you get into your 50's, or are a high-lvl rogue and can solo as others mentioned.

it's a total headache and probable waste of time, but you can "solo" this as a warrior. i took off all my gear and kept running in and dying. luckily some parts were already cleared but making the mallet was tough. i somehow managed to resurrect in the middle of mobs, put my gear in, charge the guard, fear, and make the mallet before dying.

protip: do this quest at the same time as the other elite ones in the area if you're planning to

Hey folks - just did this in Phase 2 of Season of Discovery at level 40 with a 15 man raid. We weren't sure if we would all get it, but everyone in the raid was able to loot the mallet when she died. Feel free to bring friends!
